We're starting to think of senior school for DS1 (although we have ages yet) and it makes me feel sick for lots of reasons, this being one of the lesser ones.

At my senior school toilets were covered in graffiti, blocked, overflowing, generally unpleasant places where there was a good chance of a bully lurking. Are they still like this? Is it unreasonable of me to ask to see the boys toilets when visiting schools, as I have boys?

Locked generally.

not in my expereince. Not nice but not like public loos.

Sort of inbetween sainsburys loos and publis loos in a station.

god that made NO sense.

I mean not as nice as sainsburys loos but not as bad as public ones.

Ours are fine - as good as supermarket ones ;) We do have a cleaner on site so if there is ever a mess the culprits are usually found pdq and it sorted. Not sure I'd want to look in the boys though.

We rejected a school because the loos were kept locked and you had to ask a teacher for the key - I thought this completely outrageous until MartianBishop told me why. I still think it's outrageous but now understand why it has to be done.

Dd is at an all girl school and the main problem seems to be getting through the cloud of mixed Impulse sprays!

ds went to a primary school in Lomdon before we moved and it was a lovely school but the loos were vile and filthy and stinky..I swear that the soap on a stick thing above the basins was the same rancid one throughout his 3 years there. Haven't looked in his current school loos or those of his secondary school. I lived in fear of people looking under the cubicles and of the scary sanitary towel incinerator in the end loo.

Girls' toilets worse than the boys' IME.

Boys just go in and out.

Girls lurk.

And I agree it's bad to have to keep them locked. But not as outrageous as the appalling state they can be left in if they're not. Sadly.
