Dropping Welsh Bacc at A level

Not sure I'll get many replies to this as it's a bit niche.

Anyone got experience of successfully asking for Welsh Bacc to be dropped at A level? I know Welsh gov don't make it mandatory but some colleges and schools do.

My DD is in college and doing 3 a levels plus Welsh Bacc. She's being treated for an eating disorder and finding the extra work that comes with Welsh Bacc too much. She's been told she has to write a letter to the dean. Apparently they often try and get them to drop a subject instead of the bacc which makes no sense to me. She's thoroughly enjoying the subjects she chose.

I'm wondering what our rights are here in terms of really pushing for it to be dropped? I don't want to end up with her having to leave college as she's settled in well there.

I don't have any specific objects to the bacc by the way, her older siblings did it with no quarrel from me.

Yes. My Blwyddyn 13 child has dropped the Bacc. Grades likely to be higher in A level than the Bacc so it makes sense. We were half expecting a battle but the Head of 6th form was entirely reasonable about it. We also have an older sibling where the A* at Bacc made a difference to uni choices so I think in general it’s a good idea. Just not for this child.

Thanks for your reply - same for us actually. My older child benefited from doing it. Fingers crossed the college will be ok, just a bit thrown by the formal process they're making her/us go through!
