Bathroom chaperones

Does anybody else have children at a secondary school where they do not allow them to visit the loos during class time without a chaperone to escort them there and back while waiting outside?

The school has stated it is for health and safety reasons but IMO it seems overly excessive and awkward for girls with periods.

Who Chaperones and what’s the process ie is there a long wait from asking to go to to the toilet and then actually being able to go?

TBh after reading horror stories on here about people being restricted access/ having to leave a shoe (?!!) then this doesn’t sound too bad if it means they at least let you go when you need to

Absolutely necessary in my school or the kids truant and vape in the toilets. Done in lots of secondary schools near me or they just outright ban anyone going to the toilet during class without a medical reason.

This sounds like a nightmare to staff. The fact that the school has decided it's necessary tells you a lot. It's not health and safety (unless the school in question is Hogwarts), it's behaviour.

It is usually the individual who monitors the “isolation room”. He is sent a request to come and take said child to loo

It's quite normal in secondary school today because of behaviour issues.

We do.

Because we spent a lot of money getting the Victorian toilet blocks done up and they got trashed.

Fittings literally ripped out of the walls.
Not to mention the shit on the floor.
And the swastikas.

We can't afford nice things any more because we have to escort teenagers to the toilet.

In my daughter’s old school, if they needed the loo during a lesson, they’d have to wait for a senior leadership team (SLT) member to be called to the class, to accompany them to the toilet.

The bullying that goes in in toilets , where kids plan to meet you from different classes, the prevention of self harming , avoiding lessons , graffiti prevention. All sorts of reasons why

I can’t imagine my daughter’s school doing something like this.

Sadly given the multitude of issues in toilets as detailed above this is a sensible solution.
