More Nurturing Alternative to Grey Court School

My daughter is now in year 8 and struggling with her self image that she is refusing to take off her makeup and getting into trouble with SLT. The culture of boys calling girls ugly and as I have just heard, grading them, has caused her confidence to plummet. Alongside send she now has an IEP (requested by me) and Grey Court should be managing their harsh manner with her better. They have come a long way since I had to fight to provide more support for her, but my daughter hates it there and wants a more supportive and nurturing school. Any advice for other secondary schools apart from Teddington? Is TKA nuturing and will they allow a little more makeup than the bare minimum? She is prepared to travel. If anyone has any feedback on their experiences with grey court send and whether their children found their way after a difficult period. Any tips in the meantime for handling their approach to my daughter’s self image and her need to wear makeup to feel confident would be appreciated.

Would you consider an all girls school if it is the boys (rating people, which is awful) she was having an issue with? Gumley would be worth a look if it isn't too far away. Gumley House School FCJ - Home. It is a lovely school, and whilst it is catholic you do not need to be catholic to apply x

Thank you, that’s uncanny as my mother in law went to Gumley Girls in the 50s! Maybe that’s a good omen. I will look into it 🙏

That sounds horrible. Sorry your daughter is going through a tough time at Grey Court. If you would consider an all girls school then I’d recommend Waldegrave in Twickenham. My daughter is there, though very new to the school herself! She is really enjoying it. I’ve spoken to many parents across year groups and they all speak highly of it.

Thank you 🙏 I have just had another recommendation from a fellow Waldegrave mum this week. Think I’ll have a look around, for sure 👍

Have you checked which schools have spaces?

You might have to wait for a while for Waldegrave but my DDs did well there. Any reason for not considering Teddington?

I haven’t yet, I’m quietly hoping things will turn around for her but happy to go on waitlist for the right school.

She knows people there and has expressed that she doesn’t want to go.

Is fee paying an option for you? My DD (dyslexic/AuDHD) is in Year 11 at St Catherine's Twickenham and it has been the making of her. Small, nurturing and very focused on instilling confidence rather than simply chasing results.

Ursuline High Wimbledon is all girls and very nurturing while being academic yet fun. Catholic but all can apply.

It’s a great school but I wouldn’t describe it as nurturing !
