Last year there was a very helpful thread discussing the Sutton grammar schools. Results of round 1 coming out tonight according to the old thread's timelines!
Would be helpful to know what everyone gets once you know! They seem to come out in batches too.

Are Tiffin Boy's 11+ results out yet?

Good luck to all today - high emotions all round! We just got a no from Wilsons, and a pass from Sutton. is there any way i can use the Wilsons mark to work out Sutton chances?
Wilsons Scores:
Maths 244 (Minimum threshold 160)
English 187 (Minimum threshold 192)
SET 549 (Pass mark 485)

Good job! The weighting of Wilson’s is quite different and is 80% based on stage 2 result I think. So the score for the other 2 school could be substantially different for children who did stage 1 very well compared with stage 2.

The thing about this is that, there are 1000 passed Sutton Granmar School hurdle cumulatively only 150 gets in, it is still a 1 in 9 or so chance as we don’t really know the scores to make the decision on the CAF……

Araminta1004 · 16/10/2026 11:41

The superselective boys schools like Wilson’s etc have a lot of boys who are really good at Maths so it often is the English that is the differentiator. Those boys who don’t make it with such high Maths scores will still do incredibly well in likely Maths related A levels.
And yes, DS2 has friends who got eg Wallington but ended up at eg Judd in Kent. So much shuffling around across the various boys grammars across London, Outer London and into Kent.

Araminta1004 · 16/10/2026 11:42

Or Essex even. The schools do need to over-offer massively now and it is so hard to predict and even order the schools as you just do not know.

It's not quite as bleak as a 1 in 9 chance. Quite a few people take Sutton, Tiffin, St Olave's, QE, Kent, Slough and then just move near the one they want. Some also apply for independents.

Last year only 413 applicants put Wilson's as their 1st choice on the CAF, despite nearly 700 passing it. 165 put WCGS and 128 put SGS. So only 706 applicants put even one Sutton grammar as their top choice. The three schools collectively gave out 545 offers on 1st March. Each of the schools also tends to give out around 40-50 offers to the waiting list by September.

trying29 · 16/10/2026 15:16

I’m not sure your waiting list information is correct - in 2025 Wilson’s only gave out 3 spots. The movement hasn’t been so big this last year. And you can list the school in first place but if you finish 800 for example you won’t have a chance of getting that first spot sadly:

That's true, but that was an unusual year: Waiting List movement 2020-2025 - a Freedom of Information request to Wilson's School - WhatDoTheyKnow

2025 Entry - 43 offers were made
2024 Entry - 3 offers were made
2023 Entry – 40 offers were made
2022 Entry – 43 offers were made
2021 Entry - 18 offers were made

Thanks - I really hope this is accurate. as based on this formula DS’s Sutton score is comfortably higher than needed based on previous years Offer Day pass marks!

trying29 · 16/10/2026 21:50

I really think it is correct - 513 was comfortable for us based on 2024 marks, and your sons score was far higher!

The formula maybe off a few points, but you son's 150% math over the base line leave little doubt he must be in the top part of the rank for the other schools that only look at combined scores. If he couldn't get in, who could?

Thanks this is reassuring. I just had wrongly believed a no from Wilsons means the chances for the others are lower as overall rank must be lower. But their criteria is clearly different.

he was very hit and miss on the Examberry practice maths papers - sometimes it would be riddled with silly mistakes/misreading the questions and a few times he literally barely dropped a mark. He obviously had a ‘hit’ on the actual maths stage 2!

So according to this, if you passed Wilson’s this year (even if you just got the minimum score in each component) you have a good chance of being offered Wallington on 1st March.

Adumom · 17/10/2026 11:03

New to this forum n discussion.

My DS cleared all 3 Sutton schools + Bexley test (not in top 180) 224

All OOC

confused on putting schools in CAF form.
Wilson (1st choice)

Any suggestions are welcome. TY

Araminta1004 · 17/10/2026 11:22

@Adumom - well how far are you on the Bexley schools because it comes down to distance and you can go look up the historic distance scores.

DS2 is in year 8 now. My advice above all else is (if there is no intention of moving house), go do the actual commute to figure out overall time and reliability. Multiple bus changes often not a good idea! Whereas connecting tube/train can be OK.

Also don’t overthink minor differences in attainment. The 3 Sutton schools are all very good.

Araminta1004 · 17/10/2026 11:32

But usually @Adumom (subject to commute) it would be 1. Wilsons 2. Sutton 3. Wallington 4. whatever Bexley school you are in distance (so it is very small in the 2 mile mark for Bexley GS, 3.5 miles Chis and Sid and up to 7 for Beths - but you need to go look it up clearly). And they always say to put a guaranteed Comprehensive in no 6. You can go back to adding your DS to waiting lists post 1 March.

I am only on this thread as have agreed to help neighbour’s DC with 11 plus (said DC in year 5). Just found out Kent have changed their provider from GL to Quest/Atom. It pays to keep on top of this stuff. And I am only helping because DD2 (year 13) dropped out. It is actually more stressful helping someone else’s DC!

Sportie7 · 18/10/2026 00:05

I wish the boys would follow the girls and make provision to allow more local boys in. It makes such a difference to school life. Most of DD's friends and classmates come from the local area and so they can meet up easily and are also very involved in after school activities. DS has the opposite. Friends are from all over London, so difficult to meet up and it appears that they have difficulty engaging a vast number of children in after school activities as they travel so far.

I’ve always been curious about what the split between locals and long distance commuters is like at the Sutton grammars. The only data I have is this from last year:

Out-of-borough offers

Boys grammars in Sutton
64.5%

Girls grammars in Sutton
55.0%

Obviously there will be a big chunk of these still living nearby though in Kingston, Croydon, Merton, Banstead, Epsom etc. Even Wilson’s say 70% of their pupils live within a 5 mile radius (though some of those would have moved in after gaining a place at the school).

Nonsuch and Sutton Grammar give more in-borough offers than the other three (slightly over half for Nonsuch and slightly under half for SGS).

AnonymusMum · Yesterday 12:55

My DS scored 219 in Maths and 182 in English, with an overall score of 502 in the Wilson’s Stage 2 exam. Unfortunately, he didn't meet Wilson’s English threshold.
He has qualified for both Sutton Grammar and Wallington, but with 1,165 boys meeting Sutton Grammar’s qualifying standard, and potentially even more qualifying for Wallington, I’m finding it difficult to gauge his chances of securing a place at either school.
Has anyone been in a similar position in previous years, or received an offer with comparable scores? Any insights would be really appreciated.

Thank you! I checked it out and it’s a really useful tool. It’s just hard to know how many boys are in a similar score range or higher. Would be lovely to hear from anyone who was in a similar position in previous years and managed to get an offer. The waiting game is so cruel!

trying29 · Yesterday 14:03

my son got 513 from Wilsons - and got an offer on national offer day from wallington. we didnt consider Sutton. Last year Wallington passed fewer boys than Sutton did.

AnonymusMum · Yesterday 15:08

Thank you, that's very helpful. We are also leaning towards Wallington.
