Year 13- predicted grades and low motivation

Hi
DD 18 has always loved school, did well in her GCSEs and now in final year of A levels. She didn’t do as well as she hoped in herend of year exams despite working hard and we’ve just had her predicted grades which she’s pretty gutted about, one in particular. She can appeal giving evidence of why she thinks it’s wrong. Her commitment and effort scores are v high for 2 subjects, high for the other. The one she’s had the lowest grade predicted for is one she got 4 grades above her GCSE predicted grade for, so evidence of low predictions vs attainment previously, and her teacher recommended she do the subject at a level, this will be going into the evidence along with the fact she has proactively spoken to her teachers to ask how she can improve, has done essay plans and essays etc. She seems v low and really not enjoying school, she’s also doing non examined assessments for 2/3 subjects at the moment and finding them v time consuming and hating them! She’s cracking on but is not happy. So I guess I’ve got a few questions, what other evidence would you suggest? How do I help her motivate herself, is it common to feel a bit like this at this stage of year 13 and what can we do re her revision technique ( should say she’s also spoken to someone at school who specifically helps with this)and confidence as I think that’s what’s lying at the root of this. Can any teachers let me know what else she should be thinking about? Thanks

I think it’s gone here 🤷‍♀️

without knowing the subjects this is more generic advice.
if she was 4 grades below she got at most a 5, so this was always a B ish prediction I would suspect.

she needs to identify the problem. Is it foundational knowledge from gcse (more likely in science), writing style or ability to retain information over time, exam technique? Were her end of years below her non timed assessments, and was she

if she’s aspiring to a* but predicted a b, and is getting B in her essays etc, and got <5 at gcse I can tbh see why her teachers are sticking to their guns. It’s heartbreaking to see someone with no plans on results day because they didn’t listen to reasonable feedback and haven’t met their requirement.

revision wise she needs to be putting in regular time now. Again depending on subject Seneca is excellent. Practice papers are ideal; get her teachers to read and give feedback. There are subject specific guides - if you’re English, @meand I can suggest some more.

Commitment is fab and commendable but has no bearing on predictions.

she also can do ucas until January so she has some time to show improvement. She could also have a plan to go into clearing if she overperforms. her NEA needs to be as high as possible but teachers are limited what they can do, you can read and support though obviously not so for her

a fuck you attitude has definitely helped some students outdo my stubborn predictions 😂

At my DC's school, if you are disappointed with your predictions you have the opportunity to do another test / mock to see if you can bring the grade up - could that be a possibility?

@LottieMary I think she got 4 grades higher not lower in GCSEs!
