Grammar school suggeston. Wilscon's?

Dear all, it's my first message here, apologies if something is not done correctly. I am a naturalised British citizen, and my son was born in the UK, however last few years we spent abroad for work. He started his primary school in London, and continues at a local private school built on the British program. He is in Year 5, and as we plan to return to the UK, I have thought of trying to get into a grammar school. He is a smart boy, who loves reading, speaks English as a native, solves all maths tasks first in class and constantly gets maths challenges. He plays chess and is also good with piano and guitar, performing at competitions and does exams with distinctions up to level 3 at Trinity.
After lots of reading, I thought to go for the Wilson's school, however I am open to any suggestions. A strict catchment area would be a problem as we would need to move if the place is secured, but I know some schools don't have a catchment area regulation, only as tiebreaker.
Do you think Wilson's is a good school for this profile or we should consider another school? Thank you!

I think there’s only QE boys that offers places based only on scores and takes no notice of how close you live to the school.

Wilson’s will allocate places based on proximity to the school in the event that the children have the same score. So not a catchment as such, but prioritising those who live locally. You will have some boys with super high scores who clearly get in but as you move down the rankings you get more children with the same score - given the thousands who sit the tests each year this could be a decent number all with the same score.

Wilsons is a good school for this. They allocate on score. Yes distance is a tie-breaker, but that only applies if you get the lowest score for a place. If you get even 1 mark higher than that, you will get a place regardless of where you live.

The 2 other boys schools nearby, Wallington Grammar and Sutton Grammar, also offer some spaces on score alone and are based on the same test, so you could apply here too. It's harder to get in than if you lived locally, but not impossible. Just make sure you have a decent back-up if he doesn't get a place. Your DS sounds well suited, but these schools are insanely competitive and people tutor HARD for places.
