Hi, my daughter who doesn't mind if she attends a single-sex or co-educational school, and she is particularly strong in math. Disregarding the catchment area, which of these two schools has a heavier workload and stricter academic standards? I heard from a friend whose child is already at Royal Latin that Year 7 students hardly have homework throughout the year. Is this true? I lean towards a school that offers stronger academic support to its students. Thanks!

Both are solid Bucks grammars so you're not picking between a good school and a weak one. Aylesbury High is girls-only and Ofsted Outstanding; Royal Latin is co-ed in Buckingham and rated Good. The real difference is more vibe and day-to-day than a massive academic gap on paper.

I'd take the "hardly any Y7 homework at Latin" thing with a pinch of salt — that tends to vary by teacher and year group. Worth asking at open evenings (or emailing) what homework actually looks like in Y7 maths, how they stretch kids who already find it easy, and what support looks like if someone wobbles after the jump from primary. For a maths-y DD who's fine either way on single-sex vs co-ed, I'd lean on where she feels more settled when you visit rather than which one sounds "stricter".
