11+ maths - marks for workings

Hi all,

In the 11+ maths exams for independent schools, are they generally hand marked and are marks given for workings? Some past paper questions are for 3 marks, it seems unfair to award nil for a mistake in one element of the question.

We’re using Atom for past papers, but they only show number of correctly answered questions and a standardised score…so they can’t give partial marks for workings as it’s all online. Just wanted to know if the real thing followed similar practice.

Does anyone know?

thanks

It depends on the school. However, the schools of your choice should have a few example questions on their website so you can see if they are multiple choice or more freehand.

Usually stage-1 is multiple choice so you have to get the right answer and stage-2 is ‘solving with working out’ so there could be subjectivity (although I doubt any school will commit to this)

Thanks both

It all depends on the school. The school my dc targeted, specifically stated that there were no marks for workings.
