HELP Overthinking teen seeks "acceptable" backpack (Your thoughts on suitable backpacks please)

My daughter has bought so many backpacks over the years.
All fall apart in a year!
I need one that is
Cute
Black (preferably)
Large
Long lasting
Has pockets
Water pouch
(The first one is So she can "be cool" (does it really matter) apparently I'm just "uncool")
Is this a lot to ask??

DD got hers in 6th form. She is 26 now and uses it all the time.

If the focus is on being cute and/or cool I’d probably go with whatever brands are popular at your DDs school.

At my DDs school this year it seems to be: new balance, north face or any others sold in jd sports

After many backpacks fell apart, these lasted for years:

DD Fjallraven one that she has used for about eight years at least

Jan Sport has other designs and sizes to consider. Ours have survived well and I’ve washed them!

Nike, Adidas or Puma are popular and considered cool with teens round here. Definitely not Mountain Warehouse. Take her to JD Sports or Sports Direct and let her choose.

It needs to be something awful like Nike or North Face and totally indistinguishable from all the others, I'm afraid.

Mountain Warehouse would be the modern equivalent of a Kwiksave bag for a teen, as much as I hate to say it.

My dd (22) is using the kanken she got in year ten for work, having used it daily throughout her GCSEs, A levels and being away at university. She got the slightly bigger laptop size.

Kanken are great but if she is concerned about being cool then as others have said, definitely a trip to JD and let her choose.

I tend to think Kanken are a staple for some uni students and middle-aged women (I own 2, FYI).

We use JanSport too as do approximately 80% of the students at DC’s school.
No idea whether they’re cool or not. They certainly seem to be acceptable where I am (Ireland).

Vans ds has one in black, he's not gentle with it, I suspect it is often used as a goal post for football games on the field, etc. But it has lasted well.

His older sister had loads of rules about his backpack requirements before he started secondary. No straps across the back of it, no zig zag stretchy tension ropes (because older kids will yank/ping them in the hallways). It ought to be Nike or Northface, but he liked the plain black Vans one and she deliberated and deemed it acceptable brand.

My kids have got Vans ones. They have lasted really well. Eldest got his for year 10 and is still carrying out around after a year at uni. It seems to be 80% Nike 20% Vans for backpacks around here!

I’d buy her something sturdy but not cool and explain that trying to fit in with the ‘in-crowd’ leads some folks to a lifetime of anxiety worrying what other people think and being a total pushover.

Encourage her to develop her own sense of style.

Which school bag is in fashion is very area dependant. I always see Fjallraven on these threads but they've never been a thing here.

Have a look at the school gate to see what everyone has, or failing that a plain back bag from one of the mainstream trainer brand (Nike/Adidas/puma) will never be social death.

I’d got her years ago was just too small. She does eye my Lululemon bag though, that appears to be deemed acceptable.

How old is she? Where we are Yr 7-11 boys have Nike or North Face and girls have Nike or Adidas and, occasionally Vans. Boys continue like this into the Sixth Form but the girls move to tote bags, ideally Longchamp. I continue to be perplexed how all of these 16yo are affording these bags, especially as there seem to be no teen jobs here for love nor money, but my perplexedness doesn’t stop it being a thing

My teenage son has a Zavetti backpack. I wouldn’t say it’s cute but it ticks all the other boxes.

I agree, it can be totally different even in a secondary school in the next suburb. The kids here wouldn’t have Vans backpacks any more then they would have the netto carrier bag from the start of the thread.

DS (17) and DD(14) has used them for about 5 years. They both have the Big Student size.
I have one (a bit smaller) that is 28 years old.

So funny. Black Nike rucksack if possible here. Then DD went to sixth form and a large tote was acceptable there. See what the other kids have. Easier to fit in.

Nike or The North Face.

My daughter carries a Roka bag BUT she is pretty much indifferent to whether it is cool (I suspect that it is a middle aged mum rucksack). I do like that it is waterproof though.
