Y10 mocks

DD just got her mock results back.
Are these results likely to be an indication of actual GCSE results?

She's just done her mocks and got:
Maths 5, English (both) 5, science (combined) 4, Geography 4, Spanish 6, Psychology 6.

If I'm honest she probably didn't do effective revision but we are looking at maybe a tutor for Maths and English for year 11 and maybe medley and trying to encourage regular revision throughout the year. How often do students grades improve from year 10 mocks?

We're getting DS' back tomorrow - we're keeping expectations realistic. He couldn't write anything in English Language or Lit, which has been a consistent issue. We've got a tutor for English recently and he has challenges with writing because of his ADHD. He did managed to write something in History, but will probably be a pass mark at best. Maths he also wobbled in the exams, so maybe he'll get a pass, I don't know. Should get 4s, maybe 5s in other subjects... he's good in class but still doesn't know how to revise consistently and we're still not sure how best to help him.

For most kids I'd expect it to be a mark or 2 down from the real thing... DS its harder to tell because he doesn't just steadily improve, his outcomes just tend to go up and down randomly, except for science which holds fairly steady.

This frustrated me, a good tutor should help with this! Providing revision materials, strategies, different metacognition methods, spaced learning etc...

Well he'd only had tutor for 3 weeks before exams this time so I couldn't expect him to work miracles in 3 sessions, to be fair.

OK, actually better than I feared - 4s in history and maths even though he didn't complete the history and he says he wasn't able to do much of second maths paper. And a 4 is all he needs not to retake maths, so that takes it out of the worry zone. Bit disappointing to only get a 44 in science, I thought he might manage a 5/5 or 4/5, so he'll only be put in for foundation, which I think means a maximum 5/5. Shame as that's one area I thought he might manage a 6/6. Got a 6 in psychology, though, which is fantastic.

As a tutor I always say I can make a grade change in 8 hours roughly. Worth noting as well as a qualified teacher and tutor the grade change between a 3-4 and 4-5 is harder than a 5-6 or 6-7 as the lower grades are usually content breakthroughs and getting pen on paper in the exam (so confidence and resilience) , and mid grades are exam practice/style/timing tweaks or case studies. Top grades are where the application and evaluation skills are needed.
