Question for appeal panel members/clerk

For someone who sits on appeals panels - perhaps specifically the clerk… do you write the decision letters after each appeal and then send them after all appeals take place, or are no decisions actually made until all appeals are heard?

I am trying to gauge when I will receive my outcome letter. I have been told “within 5 school days of the last appeal, which is happening on X date”. Be nice to know when I should expect to receive it. Does it take the full 5 days normally or is it normally within a couple of days but they say 5 days as a buffer?

Thanks in advance

The Appeals Code is clear that the panel must not make any decisions until they have heard all the cases.

As for how long it takes, that depends on the time it takes the clerk to write the letters and get them checked by the chair. The Appeals Code says the letters must be sent within 5 school days of the last hearing, so that is why they are saying that.

Thank you so much! Feels like a lot to get done in 5 days when you have 15+ appeals that have taken place!!

What my LA do now is send an email with the result after decisions are made on the last day, and then the longer letter with the full reasoning comes out a few days later - so you know the result very quickly. You could ask if your LA/ admission authority do that.
