Latymer upper or Emanuel

Hi, I’m trying to choose between Latymer Upper and Emanuel School for my child and would really appreciate hearing from parents.

How happy are your children there day-to-day?
How is the workload and pressure?
Do you feel the school supports students well (pastoral care)?
And is there anything you wish you had known before choosing?

Thanks so much!

Is this with offer in hand or applying for next year?

Sign up for open days at both schools and check their websites for past papers. Apply to both if undecided and see offers option.
GCSEs or not, trips, sports etc.

Ds is at Latymer and is very happy there. We are happy with the school. Atm not much workload out of school, but ds is in year 7. No pressure at all. Ds is enjoying his lessons very much and doing well. But perhaps it depends on the dc and how academic they are. We leave everything to ds and he manages himself.

Do you plan to apply to more schools? It is important to have a range as you don't know where your dc will get in. Latymer and Emanuel are very popular.

My child is super happy at Latymer as well. We’re really happy with the school

Both good schools. If you get offers at both, I'd choose the closest one / the one that's easiest to get to!

If it’s for next year apply to both and see how you get on ( and apply to others as well). Also have a very happy DC at LU but know happy kids at Emanuel as well. Quite different schools in terms of location, vibe etc.

Definitely agree!

Apply to both and a few others, do go to Open days with DC. Depending on the offers, go to Offers days and see which one your DC and you prefer. The process of registration and applying and the exam days can really change opinions.
One of the top ones in our list, after the process meant a serious no for us.

My understanding based on various comments on here and IRL is that LU treats children as more independent, expects them to manage themselves, whereas Emanuel does quite a lot in the way of information and feedback to parents, you will be notified if marks are low etc. So preference may depend on whether your child is self motivated and organised or not.

I don’t have any personal experience of a child at either school though so this is based on second hand comments only.

Thank you everyone, that’s really helpful.
We will definitely apply for other schools as well and see how it goes.
