Please tell me all about this school, the good and the bad.

I have a friend with children there and they are very happy! What specifically do you want to know?

Thank you for responding. That sounds positive. I was quite keen on the school by reputation. I met a parent who has put other schools down as she said her older children there didn’t have a subject teacher and one of the reasons for the results is tutoring, said the head (and school) are now more can’t do than can do and that a lot of funds have been put towards isolation units whilst departments struggle. Hard to know if this is one parent’s view or more generic.

I showed my friend your comment and she said that she only knows of a staffing issue in one department this year due to ill health, and that the school communicated well about it and prioritised the exam years.

She also said that most of her DC's friends don't have tutors and that she's been genuinely impressed with the teaching, and that she's not aware of departments struggling financially (any more than in any state school). She said there isn't an "isolation unit", there's a reflection room where pupils spend a day on work set by their class teachers, and that it's quite a high-level sanction, and there's a mentoring hub where staff work with students on academic or behaviour mentoring. She said she didn't recognise the school you described!

As I said originally, her DC are having a great time there. My only direct experience is that I went to a concert there and was very impressed by the standard and breadth, the music department seem to be doing really amazing things.
