Would be really keen to hear from people who have passed the interview stage at the likes of Highgate, habs and ucs and then NOT got offers. Is it really still a case of the numbers being slashed again after interview

My son got through to interview stage a few years ago at UCS & Habs. Got an offer from Habs which we accepted and was first choice but didn't get offer from UCS. UCS said he was in the 2nd quarter of those called back and understand they call back around 250. Feedback requested said he did not do well enough in the exam or interview to warrant being made an offer. Only 60 places at UCS so you really need to be in the top quarter to get an offer. They must over offer as not everyone accepts so perhaps be in the top 90ish to get offer. Because of fewer places UCS is more competitive to get in. It all comes down to how well others did compared to your son regardless of how well they did. London schools face more competition now as people are switching from boarding schools to London day schools due to VAT.
