Does anyone know roughly how many candidates Eton invited to the second round?
I understand that there are around 260 places available — is it correct that about 500 boys were invited to the second stage?

I’d be really interested to know what the scale of this year’s Eton second-round invitations looks like.

Does it really matter?

Either your son gets in, or he doesn’t. What happens to other applicants is irrelevant.

I believe they invite more than that. Have 1300+ applicants and interview around 50% of those.

I'm quite sure you understand that the statistical likelihood of her child getting into the school of their choice may offer OP helpful information. If knew that 95% (or 10%) of outcomes for anything were X or Y, that would surely guide my expectations and preparation accordingly.

We’ve been through this application process, @SardinesOnGingerbread. (Successfully.) Trust me on this, it doesn’t matter how much you immerse yourself in statistics or race all over the place seeking additional information; there can in the end only be one of two outcomes.

The rough probability of those outcomes might still be useful information, especially when communicating with a child whose expectations and emotions need managing.
