Hi there - does anyone have any current feedback for Ibstock place please? I am considering it for year 7 in sept for my daughter. Thanks

Are there any current Emanuel parents here that could give a view of the school? I’m interested for my daughter for year 7 2026 and wondered if many of the kids are very local as she would need to get the train from Richmond. General feedback welcome

Emanuel is an extremely easy walking route from Clapham junction. Hoards of kids do it. So if you’re close to Richmond station it is a simple commute. You need to have a plan for strikes or other days when the trains aren’t running though (the 337 is an option I think but I suspect it takes a very long time).

edited to add: am not a parent at the school sorry, but I hear good things!

In the past there were several posts regarding Ibstock that were not positive from different parents. They were taken down. From what I read, I did not get a the greatest feeling from the school, so did not apply for my dc. However, I know two families with dc at the school and they are happy.

My DS is at Ibstock (Y9) and has been very happy. There is a broad range of extra curricular activities which has really suited him,

Really??!
we attended the 11+ there were around 300 kids and this was one out of 6 slots… for 60 places. I was shocked as I did not think it was so popular…

Thanks for letting me know. Their ranking is very high and we got very impressed at open day. The amount of kids applying (around 1200 this year they say) for 60 slots is more than what we heard at other more academic schools. My daughter is not very academic, middle of the range on everything apart from maths where she is in the top set, and she won’t never make it with these numbers of kids. We applied thinking it would suit middle of the range kids, as she won’t enter Wimbledon high or Putney high.

Emanuel is super hard to enter. It used to be not good academically but the new head seems to have improved. Sport is a bit weak. Drama and music very strong. You can see some reviews in Nappy Valley. We did not apply as I I felt it a bit stuffy and old school. At the open day there were all male teachers presenting and I felt it was an horrible thing not to think to have balance.

@Whoknowshere- Ibstock receive about 600 applications a year for 90 places according to their website. They will over offer substantially so the odds aren’t that bad.

tennissquare · 11/01/2026 11:17

@xmasxmaselfgood odds eps if you are a girl due to the abundance of single sex girls schools in the area. 2 or 3 years ago they had so few girls accept places that they had to turn to the list of those they had rejected at end of first stage, they must have adjusted their offer ratios in a positive direction since then.

Not this year, apparently they had an exceptionally high number of applications. Obviously it’s not officially confirmed, but I can tell you they offered 6 slots for the assessments, in my daughter slot there were around 300 people. The queue to enter from the side gate was all the way up at the the other main gate… not sure why so many applicants considering reviews are mixed.

xmasxmaself · 11/01/2026 12:00

@Whoknowshere- was it the school that told you the had a very high number? Remember that each slot didn’t necessarily have 300 people. I may be wrong but I still think it’s highly unlikely they had 1200 applicants. Good luck to your DC.
I do know happy kids and parents there.

other kids from our primary were at 4 other slots and the number of kids seems around 250-300. I heard the number from a few parents as told from their heads. Anyway, it is not super important. It is not our first choice and we thought it would have been a back up as easier to enter but I am now thinking not so much!
