Unfortunately, in the UK, if you don’t get in then children are forced down the pit with a paraffin lamp and a Canary.

Canary? You were lucky-some of us only got a sparrow and some peroxide……

@nnnnnnun would you consider boarding schools as an option?

Araminta1003 · 02/12/2025 10:27

There will always be a prep to 13 where you can go for years 7&8 and then figure it out? Also, plenty of state schools are better than many private schools.
Applying to 3 schools should be enough, that is enough pressure/enough exams for a kid to sit. You should have made sure No 3 was a proper back up.
In this climate with VAT, private education is no longer as competitive unless you have gone for the most academic ones in eg West or North London. If so, more fool you, unless your kid is a genius.

Would like to add a point that London day private schools are competitive since boarding schools fees are higher plus 20%. So those that would have gone boarding are now looking at day. The prep option for year 7 and 8 is very good suggestion as back up. If you add the names of schools you apply MN can suggest other specific options?
