We dont do state.

Kiiiiind of sounds like you don't do selective independent either lol, if you haven't been offered any.
Oh dear.

Clearly a wind up thread. Why do people actually fall for this though? Which parent willing to pay £k's for their kid would not apply or know anything about the application process and barely write in full sentences? People, use some critical thought please.

Yes you’re right. Apart from your use of the word ‘barely’ 😆

HawaiiWake · 27/11/2025 09:13

List the schools you apply and maybe MN can give suggestions for other private schools nearby or with bus routes easy to get to? Apply late to state after checking the options.

didt apply for state

The difficulty is that no Grammar/Private school anywhere has an obligation to accept a child. State MUST find you a place and if you haven't previously applied, it could be anywhere. Surely some state schools would be more acceptable to you than others?

MarchingFrogs · 27/11/2025 11:18

Have you actually been turned down by all the schools for which you applied, or are you just worried that your DC may have performed significantly less well in academic assessments and / or interviews than you expected / hoped?

'Around the South East' is such a broad geographical area, and probably the part of the country with the greatest concentration of fee-paying schools, that there will probably be a few somewhere not already overburdened with applicants, which will accept a late entrant.

Ensuring that your DC is provided with a suitable education is your responsibility, though. Asking your local authority to find a place for them in a state school, taking your expressed preferences into account (albeit with no obligation to offer a specific preferred school, or any listed at all, if none ranks your DC high enough against its published oversubscription criteria) is one way that you can achieve this, but if you insist on not 'doing state', then your other options are, as others have said, to find an independent school which will offer your DC a place, or to organise home education.

Kitmanic · 27/11/2025 11:21

I thought private schools were on their knees following the VAT thing?

GreenWheat · 27/11/2025 11:26

Gosh, you are remarkably ignorant of the options for a parent who has paid for their child to go through private prep school. One might almost say unbelievably so....

Yellowingtrees · 27/11/2025 11:29

private schools are weeping for kids - entrance requirements at most of them are collapsing - don't worry, your money will be welcomed at plenty of schools...

thecalmsea · 27/11/2025 11:29

Clear troll post.

Yes, parents who send their kids to private schools really are that arrogant and stupid that they dont apply to state schools as backup and have no idea about waiting lists and contacting schools directly. 🙄 yawn, try harder labour party activist.

Well, I thought ‘We don’t do state’ was hilarious.

CurlewKate · 27/11/2025 11:34

You send your child to state school? But I’m pretty sure you could find a private school with spaces. Maybe not the sort you were hoping for, though.

thecalmsea · 27/11/2025 11:36

Why are you dignifying this low effort troll with responses?

Rocknrollstar · 27/11/2025 12:03

nnnnnnun · 27/11/2025 08:11

We dont do state.

Then you needed to apply to more private schools.

YYYDlilah · 27/11/2025 12:06

Is that you, Catherine?

If it is, you might be able to get places for your 3 within easy distance of your new home. Grove Academy - All Through School - Slough

SheilaFentiman · 27/11/2025 12:09

Taking this at face value (...) do a late application NOW for state and then you will at least have that in your back pocket if you need to trawl for other private schools once results of 11+ tests are out

YYYDlilah · 27/11/2025 12:18

Have you applied to Greyfriars? Arnold House and Dotheboys are too far north.

YYYDlilah · 27/11/2025 12:36

Try [email protected] and see if they can magic up a place for you.

UmmH · 27/11/2025 12:51

Move them to a prep that goes up to year 8, then try again.

So sad that's not a real link 😀

Of course I did!

mimbleandlittlemy · 27/11/2025 14:36

Muggle household, but optimistic that an owl will turn up soon.

ilovepixie · 27/11/2025 14:56

Obviously a wind up thread. The OP’s grasp of English and comprehension is shocking. Either a typical upper class thick as mince type, or new money, pop star, only fans type!

MeridaBrave · 27/11/2025 14:58

If you applied for state schools and don’t get one of the ones you applied for you’ll likely be allocated any that are not fully subscribed, hence it’s usually an error not to fill all 6 spots on the form.

Wheresmatty · 27/11/2025 15:01

Unfortunately, in the UK, if you don’t get in then children are forced down the pit with a paraffin lamp and a Canary.
