GCSE or iGCSE?

DC has the choice of two different schools for Year 10.

One school does GCSE and the other does iGCSE.

Which one do you think he should go for? He's fairly academic.

Thank you

They are treated the same so I wouldn’t worry about it. Schools endlessly talk their own book about which prepares you better for a level and which is harder but I don’t think it’s a deciding factor.

Thank you.

He said he might go for International Baccalaureate over A Levels, so I wonder if that makes difference

I know the most about MFL and personally I prefer the spec for GCSE; but IGCSE is also fine. Some aspects are different (for example for IGCSE all the questions are in target language, as the inference is you might not be an English speaker) and there is no translation (for the same reason) but I would say both are equally stretching.

There is a coursework element to some IGCSEs which may suit. Or it may not.

Ime there is no difference. Ds took igcse as we were living overseas at the time and Dd took GCSEs when we moved back. They achieved similar grades.
