Just received the email and still processing it. My son’s score is quite high, but it seems it’s not enough for Graveney. Could you please clarify whether Chestnut Grove still offers places primarily based on catchment area? Would a high score be considered at all if we live outside the catchment?

We live near Ashcroft, though we’re unsure about it as the school is known for being quite strict. We’re fairly new to London, so I’m still doing a lot of research to understand the options available.

Chestnut Grove use the test to band. Then offers are made by distance in each band. Closest in each band get preference. Usually the top band has fewer applicants so the distance will be further.

Very sad over here. My child only got 210 - much much lower than predicted. It was a bad day I guess. On the plus it makes the CAF much simpler to complete now.

All the information is on the Wandsworth website. Chestnut have 5 bands based on Wandsworth test score & the top band is normally a much larger distance so if you are in there you'll have a better chance. You can see the historic distances on the website.

wandsworth25 · 24/10/2025 15:00

the information on the website only covers the years up to 2024? But anyone who sat the test must have been sent 2025 outcome data via email?

Hello, wondering if people think the marks were a bit higher than normal/test was a bit easier this year? Have spoken to a small sample of mums and scores were all higher than expected!

Oh I see! Is this something I should be worried about then? 🤣🙈.

@Kalista018 normally the scores required drop for Graveney by Sept although they are still pretty high.

I hope not! We're definitely positively surprised by ours but have heard a range of reactions from my small sample. Has anyone else heard this?

I don’t think it will drop to our level though 😂 but we are on band A on other schools.

Yes the other schools don't require such a high result.

If it makes you feel better I know dc who get into Dulwich, Trinity, Emmanuel etc but don't score high enough for Graveney.

Good to know! Yes we have couple of independent schools test lined up as well. 🤞

I’m not sure 😅😆 that’s what I’m trying to figure out. It seems like three kids from my kids’ primary school will get in which seems unlikely??

I guess you mean for heavenly school? Why not! Well done you all! I was actually told that this year’s Wandsworth test will be insane due to private schools VAT issues. Fingers crossed for you all.

Yes Graveney!

I was worried about private school vat making Graveney more competitive but hadn’t heard any concrete evidence- what did you hear if you don’t mind me asking? 🙏

Yeah basically there will be a lot more applications for Wandsworth test this year. I heard it from my son’s tutor who is very experienced in secondary school exams in this area so must be credible.

That's not true.

There has not been a significant change

Hopefully! I also heard that the number of pupils in London has been declining significantly, which could mean more school places becoming available. I suppose we’ll find out by the end of next summer.

Schools in London are seeing falling rolls, quite astonishing numbers to be honest particularly in inner London. Wandsworth isn't as impacted as say Lambeth.

The falling rolls are now starting to feed through to secondary. However this does not mean that it will be easier to get a place at the most desired schools. For one schools funding is based on head count so a school that isn't full will start to decline tbh as they will have a budget deficit and schools can also reduce their PAN. The most desired schools will still be oversubscribed and arguably could be more so as the 2nd/3rd option becomes less attractive due to lower numbers and funding.

freedo · 24/10/2025 17:29

I do think more and more dc get tuition each year though. It's not good enough now to do well, you need a very high score.

Completely agree with you — my thoughts exactly! I think it’s the same for independent schools too, as parents want to pay for something that feels truly worth it. So, the less academic schools might see more pupils leaving, while the stronger ones will probably have even more applicants.

What scores did they all get? The two highest I've heard from our class are 249 & 262, both tutored specifically for the test.

Agree, for 30k a year a lot of parents are going to want their moneys worth.

Kalista018 · 24/10/2025 18:03

I am wondering if anyone have any ideas about how many students took Wandsworth test this year?

OP posts:
SwallowsandAmazonians · 24/10/2025 21:57

My kid got 234 which is lower than expected as he was getting around 95% in a lot of practice papers. It looks like that would be too low to get in but we've actually decided another school is our preference anyway.

Kalista018 · 24/10/2025 22:15

It almost feels like everyone takes the Wandsworth test just to get into Graveney. Is that really the main point of it? I’m quite new to London, so I don’t know much about all these schools yet. I’d love to know—what makes Graveney so special?
