RS A level online?

Dd is in year 12 and really wanted to do RS/theology/ethics but school weren’t offering it (small independent) and talked her into English lit. She has mental health challenges and the dystopian side of what they are studying is not doing her any good so they have advised her to drop that section. Do you think it would be possible to drop English totally and do RS elsewhere? Any advice much appreciated. She is also studying history and art.

What does your DD want to do post-A level? RS is, like English Literature, a reading and essay-heavy subject so she would not be narrowing her university subject choices if she made the switch. In your shoes, I would go with DD to talk to the sixth form tutor at school about your plans.

There are numerous options for taking A level RS online. I can vouch for this one as NEC is a former client of mine. https://www.nec.ac.uk/course/a-level-religious-studies/ Having tutor support is important at your DD's age as the transition from GCSE is a major one and hard to navigate without support. Cost may be a consideration, of course.

Good luck to your DD!

Thank you for your thoughts. At the moment she isn’t considering going straight to uni but is interested in perhaps studying history or theology in the future. I recognise support is important, she definitely couldn’t go it
alone

Another thought. Are there other schools, independent or state, that offer RS? If there are and class sizes permit, that might be another option.

My DC studies A level RS & loved it. What was critical for her was the classroom debate about topics; if you think your DD is able to manage without that then an online course could be do-able.

Whether or not the school will allow it will depend on the school. Only they will be able to tell you if they will allow it or not.

If you go down the online course route, Humanatees offer A level RS.
