Torbay grammar schools

Hi everyone. Would like to hear some of your experiences that had children taking 11+ in Torbay area. We had 2 yes’s for CFGS and Spyres but no for TBGS. Everything is just so unclear at the moment as what chance we stand to actually gain place in CFGS. They only have a 150 places on offer. But alone in DD class over 10 pupils had a dreamed yes from Churston. Makes me wonder how many yes’s they send out compared to how many places there are to offer. Wish they made it clearer where we stand before making final decisions to apply

Haven’t CFGS changed their admissions policy to increase local attendance from specific Torbay primaries? Do you qualify for that? My understanding (limited) is that living in Torbay (compared to say South Hams) is good for getting into CFGS?

Hi. I think they send out 180 ‘yeses’ for 150 places. As the previous poster said, they have changed the criteria this year so priority is given to the 15 feeder Torbay primary schools rather than it being on best scores. Only the best 50 get a guaranteed place regardless of location.
We have a yes, but live in South Hams, so although we’re only 3 miles away, feel we are very unlikely to get a place ☹️. Huge shame for us because we only moved here a couple of years ago hoping for the grammars, when the admission criteria was different and in our favour, as geographically we’re not that far away.
