We received an email today saying our DD was unsuccessful for the Performing Arts scholarship but she was put on the reserve list for it. Does anybody have any inside on how many children are on this performing arts reserve list and what kind of movement we can expect ? Do you still think is worth to put the school on the CAF form? We don’t live close enough to go for the open places and we are not religious.

No idea about St M but I do know a pupil who was in the Camden girls reserve list for a music place and received an offer after Easter this year. They had placed the school at top of their CAF and remained on the waiting list as a result. There is a lot of movement especially after private school offers are out so I’d definitely place the school on your form as top school if it is as I’d say there is definitely a chance a place will be offered and doing so won’t prejudice any preferences lower down your list.

Their reserved list is very short. We were near the top of such list and received a place on the offer day. We’re active members of another religious community (and for that reason actually refused the place in the end), so a place on the reserve list makes your chances of getting a place very high (in my humble opinion).

Agree that the reserve list must be quite short. I know of someone who made the last 25 for music a few years ago and did not get onto the reserve list, so they certainly don't put everyone on it.
I also know of someone offered a drama place who turned it down after offer day (decided to go private) and someone who got selected for a dance place who put the school lower down on the CAF than their favourite state school and on offer day got into their first choice school. However, since the numbers are very small it's difficult to know what movement there will be, but I would think it's definitely worth the risk of a space on the CAF (assuming you like school). Just put the schools in your genuine order of preference.
