Bucks 11+ 120.5

Good morning everyone,

We got our results yesterday and our son was 1 (or 2) marks shy of a 121 pass, with 120.5.

Verbal 116
Mathematical 129
Non-verbal 121

We have an appointment with the HM of our school on Monday, in Bucks, so I believe the HM recommendation will have been made ahead of time. I understand a 1:1-2:2 position will be necessary.

In terms of other results he has the following;

Year 5
Reading - Secure On Track, Good
Writing - Secure On Track, Good
Maths - Greater Depth, Good

Year 4
Reading - Expected, Good
Writing - Expected, Good
Maths - Greater Depth, Good

Year 3
Reading - Greater Depth, Good
Writing - Expected, Good
Maths - Greater Depth, Good

Year 2
Reading - all Expected
Writing - all Expected
Maths - mix of Expected & Greater Depth

Year 1
Reading - all Expected
Writing - all Expected
Maths - mix of Working Towards & Expected

I assume we will see the predicted Y6 estimates alongside the HT recommendation on Monday.

The data over the last 6 years shows between a 69% and 86% success rate for 120 scores, it doesn’t give data on 120.5.

1 mark on verbal or 2 marks across maths & non verbal would have seen him over the line.

His grandmother passed away unexpectedly - out of the blue - in February which has made for a difficult year for all of us, he had quite a difficult time which may have impacted his overall preparation but obviously it was a number of months prior to the exam.

His brother (Y8) passed and is at the local Grammer, and thriving.

Subject to finding out a little more on Monday does anyone have any thoughts about likely Selection Review outcomes?

That he passed 2 and missed 1, the 50% weighted verbal, would count in his favour I think?

Grateful for any comments and I’ll update again on Monday after the meeting with our HT.

Good luck. He scored highly, I hope you're proud of how well he did and more importantly I hope you've told him loudly and lots. Only the VR score didn't pass, is that still weighted?

It winds me up all the kids who have no intention of moving to bucks sitting the test and raising the mean and causing unnecessary stress for families like yours. Remember the test is such a general sift and even if he doesn't get through the selection review, able students like him do well wherever they go.

Thank you and yes we've told him how well he did. It's crazy that one mark (verbal) or two marks (across maths & non-verbal) would have made it, as would being born 8 days later!

Verbal is 50%, the other 2 25% (if it was 33% each he'd have passed too!).

We have a meeting at school tomorrow so will go from there.
