You need to look at the admissions policy of each school, to see whether it has a 'near miss' criterion. But if it does, it is likely to be the very lowest one, and therefore unlikely to have places allocated under it.

Boys may just get into Beths on that, but not Bexley or C&S. I have no idea about Townley.

As advised you do need to comb through the admissions policy for each school. If I recall correctly Beth’s will allow applications from those who missed out on Bexley but passed Kent. Anyone who passed Bexley will go above this on the waiting list. I know someone who got in a couple of years ago that had missed out by one mark (remember there may be 50+ kids who were just shy of a pass, there are around 800 grammar places in Bexley and around 2000 pass). It was a long wait for them to hear but I think they got the place just before the summer holidays.

Thank you it is so stressful as have no idea what school to put on the forms headmistress is appealing … she passed Kent but missed out on bexley by 1 mark

@Priscy4000I’m no expert but I think headteachers rarely support appeals in Bexley so this is hopefully a good sign. The head wouldn’t support the boy we knew to appeal as they said they couldn’t show he was consistently at that level with his school work. Wishing you and your DD the best of luck with it.
