Hello all, we're considering the option of Glenthorne High School in Sutton for our son and he'll have to sit a banding test. Theres not much info about this test other than its broadly Math & English Key stage 2. If anyone could kindly provide tips or first hand experience planning for this test and if they were successful. What Maths and English would be good to learn/practise to prep for the test? Is it anything like the level of 11+ SET/GL which is very difficult. Did your child get an offer? Appreciate any response. Many thanks.

It’s not a pass / fail test. It just puts you in bands and they select a certain proportion from each band. It’s meant to ensure the school has a genuinely comprehensive intake.

im pretty sure that is what it is anyway. I think I have heard some comments that the distances go further out for top bands but not sure how true that is.

the selective tests are the performing based ones.

As whatohwhattodo said it is nothing to do with only the top scorers getting in. The tests are just to rank everyone by ability. They then take a few children from each band(ability). The closer you are to the school the better. They publish on their website how many from each band get selected and which distance from the school gained admission for that band. * *Look under admissions - appendix D I think.
