GCSE tutoring -- advice needed

I think my DD (year 10) might need extra support with both maths and English. Happy to pay for a tutor but if possible would like to avoid having two separate ones at the same time.

Can anyone recommend good tutors who can manage both maths and English? Or do I need to bite the bullet and pay for two separate ones?

I would imagine you need two different tutors. At GCSE level, you need subject teachers ideally so one for mathes and one for English. The only way round it would be to ask a talented 6th former to tutor your child - someone who got good marks in maths and english. But I would advise sucking it up and booking two different tutors. Couldn’t you ask them to do fortnightly sessions so you are only paying once a week? Good luck

It will be rare that you'll get a tutor with the right knowledge of both syllabus. I would get separate ones and I would get people with GCSE teaching experience, whether as teachers or TAs. I've had those with and those without hands on experience haven't done the trick.

Yes agree with others. You need a maths teacher or former teacher and ditto English. Someone with great knowledge of the syllabus and how to do well in the exams. That's not going to be the same person for maths and English. Some teachers teach two or more subjects but IME it's history and RE, or French and German, or all the sciences.

Also tbh two tutors won’t cost any more than one tutor doing both subjects.

I was going to write the same as everyone else.
Then I realised my DD had the same tutor for FS English and GCSE maths, and that tutor also did English Lang GCSE.
This was at a tutoring centre that helped Home Ed kids and GCSE resits and others.

If you amazingly live in Southampton PM me and I will recommend.
