She always hates the first day back and finds getting all the homework daunting. More tests this week. Is it the same for everyone?

I think most school do tests during the first few weeks back. DD is particularly fed up and sad tonight. One of the kids in her tutor group lost hs mum this weekend.

Ever the parent, I hugged her and said, 'makes you wonder why you argue about silly things with me, when life is too short.'

oh Maureen that so sad.

I did try and put some balance as to what is important in RL.

She has had a bath, done some homework, eaten and is OK'ish now.

She was on the floor crying for 30 minutes saying how tired she was, not knowing what the matter was, most unlike her.

How sad, maureen. My dd's friend lost her mum in year 3 - it was awful.

Mine hated first day back too - very gloomy this morning.

However, she went back expecting to have end of year exams (she's in year 7) next week, only to discover that the new Head has cancelled them - saying that children are tested too much and there is no need to do exams when they are assessed all the time anyway. Apparantly a lot of parents are up in arms - I'm delighted.

I wish the test were cancelled in her school. She mentioned that also an additional small group have got to do an extra maths test for some reason and she is one of them. She's just outside the top set, so maybe? Not sure! She's not sure either. Just fed up.
