Blue Coat Liverpool

Hi all,
around June this year son who was in year 5 decided he wanted to take the entrance exam for the blue coat. I said okay, signed him up and went from there.
He took the test and progressed onto phase 2. Now he is very bright but because he had decided at such short notice we barely had any revision time so I did think he would probably struggle.
We have been given the date of the next assessment & what it will cover so I bought Bond books to help him. The issue is that he’s never studied verbal/non verbal reasoning before and many of the help sites state he should have started in year 4! Now I know and he knows that he will do well wherever he ends up going but obviously we don’t want to take advantage of this opportunity. Is there any other ways of revising for these tests, he has done some of the 10
minute tests and been getting around 80% marks but obviously he’s had my support with these.

Isn’t the exam in a couple of weeks? My son goes there but they’ve changed the format of the exam massively in the last year so I’m not sure what they’re looking for. If the exam is only a couple of weeks off then I think you’ll just have to carry on with the bond books.
Contrary to popular belief not every child there has been tutored to the hilt, it is wide mix.

Yeah the 20th haven’t had any further info on times yet though.
He received his CEM report and was above his age for all topics but like I said these assessments are topics not taught as standard.
Hes done a few more tests from his bond book and doing well, so we will see.

Do Atom Learning cover this school? It's an app and quite pricey but if you only need a month or two it'd be good value. Even if it doesn't cater to your school specifically it has VR and NVR tuition.

My cousin's son goes to Bluecoat which is what made me notice your thread but we aren't local so I don't know specifics

Does anyone have any experience of getting a place from Group B category?

No advice sorry, my son has decided to go to Merchant Taylor’s 🙄🤣
i think, if people from group A don’t accept its offered to group B

What are the exams like? I'm confused on what the new format is. Atom learning suggests Cambridge Select Insight but I don't know where they got that information from.

Last year (for entry Sept '26) it was CEM. The first round was CEM Insight (formerly INCAS; adaptive, i.e. gets harder/easier depending on answers given), and the second round was CEM Select (everyone gets the same questions, very time pressured and not expected to finish all sections). All on computer. Round 1 was over several weekends, Round 2 was different slots on the same day. No idea if they intend to use the same system this year - the guidance on the website gives less detail, but does specify CEM.
