DD had issues at secondary - dyslexia, ADHD, anxiety - and the way COVID hit her in Y7 and Y8 that meant she didn't really go to lessons. And avoided maths whole way through secondary.
Obviously she has been made to take it alongside her level 3 diploma course. (She blagged her way on to that with an EHCP and a handful of GCSEs including good marks for English).
They made her sit GCSE maths this year - we were all cross as from a standing start it was a stressful waste of time.
I've just seen her result - she's bloody passed! 3 hrs a week of lessons, no tutoring, no revision, no experience.
She is so amazing. I mean I know she is clever and great at 'conceptual' learning but I thought it was such a big ask - dyslexia means she still can't tell the time -no idea on times tables etc.
She is currently at Reading Festival and doesn't know. Because we all assumed it was a non starter she didn't look them up before she left. I only opened email to see how bad it was. I'm now going to have to pretend I don't know, she'll be cross I looked.
I will be bad at that - so trying to get the proud out of my system now! She is simply an astonishing human being - and also quite jammy! Good things do happen to her quite a lot, in the making your own luck way.
