Resit & Tutor

DS has to resit English & Maths at college. We’re thinking of getting a tutor to help, I don’t know where to start looking. Are online tutors as good as home ones? I don’t think ds attention will be as good if he’s learning with an online tutor as he would with someone actually with him, are these what you call private tutors? Sorry I don’t know. It was awful yesterday, ds was upset, we all were. We weren’t expecting 7 or 8 or anything but his MLO in his mocks were much better he should have passed so don’t know where he went wrong in his exams.

I’m watching as we too have to resit maths. I really want to get tutor , god knows how I’ll be able to afford but feel like I need to especially as if my DD struggled the first time, shes obviously had no lessons since so if she took an exam tomorrow I can’t see her upgrading on it. I think the resits are in November.

if you’re on a neighbourhood Facebook group it’s always good to ask for tutor recommendations on there. That’s what I will probably do. I agree with you that an in person one will be better for them to focus.

Some colleges put everyone in for Nov resits. Some only put a few in if they just missed the 4, and otherwise wait until the June series.

Depending how much if anything your school charges it may well be worth getting the marked scripts back, not to ask for remark, but to inform learning going forwards.

So I emailed his ex-head of year, still a teacher at his school & he forwarded me a number of an ex teacher who does tutoring. Hopefully something will come from that - ds isn’t keen on having a tutor at all but he hasn’t a choice I’m putting my foot down this time - I did suggest it last year to help but he insisted it wouldn’t help! I’ve just sat down with him for 2 hours doing maths revision, he clearly hadn’t done it properly, done some in his bedroom but not enough. Yep time to get tough, I should have done this months ago but it’s been a really tough horrible year & i’m not making excuses, what’s done is done time to look forward & turn this around.

I have used advantatuition.com/ in the same position. the tutor was great, really patient and kind. it was online and I was concerned but it worked well.
