CBBC has a really lovely program about children starting secondary school. I forget the name. It features several different schools. DD and I found it really useful.

Just be aware that this is a big step for any child and sometimes they take a few months to settle into the routine. Everything is different - several teachers and several subjects a day, needing to remember what to take in, making new friends. DS was very nervous and worried for three weeks and suddenly it all clicked into place. For the son of a colleague it took 6 months.

I made my kids watch Educating Manchester…in fairness we weren’t living in the uk at the time and it did actually help them understand that the people in high school are just kids and not giant scary monsters.

Just make things easy at home. Set up somewhere for her to do her homework. Put a timetable somewhere where she can see what days she has to take what equipment. Buy snacks so she can take something with her. Don’t fuss on about what bag she wants to take or what she wants for lunch.
