Hello fellow parents,

I'm after some textbooks, websites, social media channels etc that would help my children to excel in science and maths (years 8 and 9). Wondering what everybody uses.

I did more practical things to foster interest & curiosity.

I bought a weather station for the garden and connected it to my ds' pc. Showed him how to track temperatures and rainfall in a spreadsheet. I took him to the local science discovery centre. I got him involved in little building projects - how cement works, how to calculate how many bricks, how much sand, the mix for mortar etc, and he went up on the roof with the slaters when we had our roof replaced,

I bought him a day working with a blacksmith which he loved. Hammering mild steel into shape.

There are lots of hands on things you can do.

Try showing them bread making with yeast. 😊Or the merlin app on their phones.

https://senecalearning.com/en-GB/ is really good for the sciences. They have loads of other subjects too.

loads of good YouTube too: free science lessons (aka “the grey man”) are good.

The CGP guides (pick correct exam board and tier) are a good starting point.
