New thread to help us get through the next week or so!

OP posts:

Finally caught up with the 111+ posts. Sorry to read the posts around SEN and extra time. Some ppl really don’t understand.

DD said IGCSE edexcel maths was ok - she was quite nervous about it as is borderline 6/7, has worked her arse off so really pushing for that 7. We celebrated the end of maths forever with a toastie from Starbucks.

History tomorrow - Vietnam & Medicine - but I think she’s on tictoc checking her answers from this mornings maths against what others have put. 🙄

🤗… I know what you mean… Your DD is everything to you and it’s so upsetting, I’m sure, to see her pain and struggles, when other DC currently may not be.

It breaks my heart just to see the chasm between my two equally perfect DS. Little one just has already had so much to overcome to not even begin to keep up. It’s even harder to witness as DS18 is the very youngest in his year and DS16 the oldest, it just makes his problems seem so much more stark. Which wouldn’t even be levelled if extra time were doubled!

Anyway, I respect what you and @ExamStuffsaid and I’m glad I did say something. Hopefully all over!

If DS gets his “4x4” ( as I’m calling the 4 Grade 4 he needs to get into college), we will be the happiest family around on results day!!!

Edited

It must be so hard having two children of such different abilities but I bet your DS2 flourishes in college once he's studying for something he really loves. I'll be celebrating those 4 x 4s with you!

labradorservant · 04/06/2025 17:11

So both maths papers went well in this house today. We had the gcse/a-level double. Dd said the Edexcel higher had some tricky questions but she had done similar is practice so could do them. Proud mum moment. Told her revision does pay.
Already marked via tik tok although they have apparently answered the dog and cat question wrong (so don’t believe it all). Maths degree DH agrees they are wrong. Multiply not add at the end??!!!
But how do the papers get on tik tok. Teachers can’t see them until tomorrow. Apparently clearly taken in the exam. As an invigilator, are there some shady ones out there???

The TikTok thing is such an added pressure isn't it! In our day, there was no way of being able to confirm what the answers should've been but now there are people posting the entire papers before they've got back from the exam. It's horrible to see kids spiralling online about wrong answers.

ThisPerkySloth2 · 04/06/2025 17:18

OCR Higher Maths - DS said "good" and pleased they had a good congruence question?????

DS only allows me one question after each exam - of course i ask more!!! i did ask was he saying exams were good to keep me from worrying but DS says no he's not. still worrying.

Sorry not Year 11 - DD(18) Eng Land /Lit A level today - keeps baking in the middle of the night to cope with stress. have persuade her i will take her right now to the Range to mooch around the craft section. Debit card at the readt. she has bound down the stairs excited so hope my tactic works to get her to be calmer and do a little revision for Polictics tomorrow.

chalk and cheese my DCs

DS has History tomorrow....

achangeofnameisasgoodasarest · 04/06/2025 17:20

@labradorservant we have also had the GCSE/ALevel double. Glad yours were OK. Ms A-Level maths also seems happy here - though said she was better at the harder questions than the easier ones (?) Dunno. She learned the bulk of her maths in Ukraine so it's all different anyhow!

@ThisPerkySloth2 commiserations to you also with both lots of exams. Honestly I'm not sure how any of us are staying sane (although at least one of mine has a houseparent to keep her in order as well and I don't have to deal with feeding her or removing the endless stream of dirty mugs as I do with the other two)

Tomorrow is the killer for Ms A-Level 2. She has an exam clash... so has to sit two virtually straight through. She's in for a tough day - so so are we all!

That's interesting. I shall pass on to DS. He already marked his paper and thought he got 79. That'll put paid to that!

Yes! Very different to my day when we didn’t even have mobile phones and the only computer was a ZX81 - with quite frankly crap games!
In DDs case she’s not seen the paper on tictoc just ppl commenting on how they answered certain questions - they could of course be wrong though.
I think the wait til mid august will be a long one!!

INeverSeeYou · 04/06/2025 17:22

Yes, DD agrees to multiply at the end of the dog and cat question so she too thinks The TikTok is wrong for Edexcel Higher P2.

She came out thinking she hadn't done as well as P1 but The Tiktok has reassured her she's done fine.

She also thought that answers on both P1 and P2 were unusual e.g. 13/12 and a very long string of numbers, but the solutions online agree with her.

I told him and he said he realised Tik Tok got it wrong and he did multiply so gave himself that mark. He didn't do as well on P1 though (according to Tik Tok 🙄). DD would never check with Tik Tok, far too stressful for her. I'm grateful.

labradorservant · 04/06/2025 17:36

@achangeofnameisasgoodasarestds said there were a lot of show me/prove or things you could check on the calculator so some certainty on the alevel. Now onto economics DS and history DD tomorrow!

RareGoalsVerge · 04/06/2025 17:41

My feedback from the iGCSE maths paper 2 was - "It was better than paper 1, because I could actually do the simultaneous equations this time"

Also we had practiced how to write down some basics to get 1/2/3 points in a 4 or 5 point question that you can't actually solve. DC was totally flummoxed by the pyramid question but wrote down what the cosine of one of the angles was, so hopefully got 1 mark for that.

DC gets extra time because in year 8 and 9 exams without extra time, this triggered major panic attacks, freezing, fleeing the exam room etc (high anxiety autism) leading to scores of 1% or 2% in some exames. Extra time was organised and just knowing that the extra time is there is enough to create sufficient confidence that DC can do the exam and is usually finished by the end of the standard time and leaves with the pupils who don't get extra time - but if this adjustment was removed the anxiety would be back in full paralysing force.

TravellingSpoon · 04/06/2025 18:08

French tomorrow. DD seems passed caring about it. In the hierarchy of subjects it's definitely at the bottom and the one she has revised the least. She hasn't been to any revision sessions if they have clashed with other subjects.

Does anyone have any exiting post exam celebration plans?

BellaI · 04/06/2025 18:15

@TravellingSpoon our post exam plan is flying to Chania in Crete just the two of us on the Sat of the last week! Get me to the beach 🏝

VivaDixie · 04/06/2025 18:16

I don't think DS has done much History revision this afternoon. He went to a masterclass at school and skimmed some resources but I am going to have to trust him.

@TravellingSpoon our exciting plans are to celebrate DS 16th birthday which is going to be celebrated 2 days later as his birthday is Sunday 15th. So we're all excited about that. 😄

labradorservant · 04/06/2025 18:38

Suffolk for a few days, then Portugal July. Turns out DS knows a lot of people going there too. Lads holiday on parents then….
Dd is now over done on history so has asked to go to her club later!

DataColour · 04/06/2025 19:00

I'm taking DS to Palma for a few days after his prom. Can't wait!

Me - how was exam?
DC - with friends back later - love you
Me - ok not too long, history tomor. How was exam?
DC Good decent
Cool

I think the ‘cool’ is to get back soon as history tomor. So AQA higher ‘good decent’

I got “decent” too on maths from DS and then “can I have £ for chips “

INeverSeeYou · 04/06/2025 19:14

Edexcel History Lizzy and Cold War tomorrow. I've been totally hands off as I've never studied it.

Any last minute words of wisdom?

All the chat is about prom prep now. He cba to do much today, you'd think with 12 days to go he'd be going for it, you'd think....

Pinkflower100 · 04/06/2025 19:32

Mine has marked excel paper 2 maths and thinks he’s only got 40 marks out of 80. Not sure he’s getting his 7 anymore 😢

Wafflesandcrepes · 04/06/2025 19:36

Deflated household here. DD found the last few questions of edexcel igcse maths higher hard despite so much revision. She’s worried this will get her average down and might jeopardise a place at the university of her choice - we think long term in our household :-)

Not looking forward to history tomorrow which used to be her fav topic. She has RSI, and despite several letters from physio, teacher point blank refused to ask for extra time, when others did. She doesn’t think she can finish it.

Officially fed up here.

My DD has History tomorrow too. Fast reaching meltdown stage because she reckons nothing is going on so I've packed her off to watch some Horrible Histories episodes on Lizzy! DD loved HH when she was younger and it's why she likes the subject so much. I can now hear her laughing in her bedroom so if nothing else it's cheering her up!

I looked up grade boundaries for maths and for last year a 7 was 137 and a 6 was 105 so I would say he is still ok for a 7 IF if his worse paper
