New thread to help us get through the next week or so!

It looks like I've missed some difficult posts. I may have time to go back and catch up.

DS says maths was "good I think".

He's given me his cold.

I wouldn’t! We got a nasty grenade lobbed in regarding “extra time” and “ entitlement “ and all got rather upsetting…. But! Hopefully all sorted, now..

So, I would use your precious time to sip Vicks or Lemsip and try and stave off your lovely gift from DS!!

Good it was “good”!

CatHairEveryWhereNow · 04/06/2025 15:48

DD2 just walked in she forgot some things but answered most of RS paper - she got moved to back of the hall as her coughing and sniffing was bothering others - she left at one point to try and stop but says she wasn't pushed for time.

I've got pretty much every cold remdy -- we have now tried anti-histones for two days no effect yet and we both sure it's a cold - and I've got her on fizzy vitamins and lots of smoothes and juice and hot drinks.

DD2 it's three weeks after half term - she sits some of the last exams that happen.

@ExamStuff@SuperTrooper14

Hey, just echoing @VivaDixie.. Thank you 🙏..

I tried to just keep “ chatting 💩 “, as my DS call it,but obviously I was aware and keeping up to date. I really, really wanted to post ( everything is not a competition, but I’m damn sure my DS would rather be like his brother, breezed through , as oppose to getting extra time which most of the time he doesn’t use as his ADHD focus will have been lost a long time before, so can’t think of what to say plus he genuinely thinks putting his head on his desk to “ clear his brain” is a good use of it)..but you guys were handling it so well and I didn’t WANT there to be a “ pile on” as was alleged. However, it made me cross for accusations of “nasty characters” and “ maliciousness” to be made, so I said something but I apologise and wish I’d stood up sooner.

You guys have all been so wonderful with everything for DS and me- and I couldn’t thank you all enough 💖🙏xx

ps- now I need to play catch up to go back and find out how @ChannelLightVesselkitty is!!! 😳🤞🤞🤞

Thank you. No need to apologise at all.

We can get back to supporting and ‘chatting 💩’ now. 😂

TeenToTwenties · 04/06/2025 15:40

Are you all finished at the end of next week or does it all go on for a third week after half term?

DD (she's 20) has a trial driving lesson in 2 weeks, just hope she copes as she needs it to get to kennels - for some reason they are all in the middle of nowhere, can't think why ... Grin Have to wait for the maths resit to be done first, she wouldn't cope with both.

DS's last one is physics on the 23rd June. I feel a bit sorry for physics - I'm sure all the students apart from those who love the subject will struggle with one more w/e of revision.

Hollyhedge · 04/06/2025 15:40

Is ratty revision preferred to norevision 🤣🤣

Presently AvoidingMumNoRevision

But I can hear the trusty printer printing out a geography paper 2 past paper (that I haven't seen pass his desk so far) with mark scheme, and insert.

So presently NoRevision much more preferable.

But RattyRevision is going to have to make a reluctant comeback!

This time next week it he will be NearlyOverRevision, looking forward to that sequel!

And is it wrong I quite enjoy the geography "analyze this photo" questions? Love them. I am one step away from donning a Sherlock Holmes hat for them!
I am hoping my uncontained enthusiasm will give him an internal smile (must remember this for mum) moment during his exam, as he's a good teen usually.

Poisoningpigeons · 04/06/2025 15:54

DC last exam is Further Maths on the 18th. The exams seem much more spread out on this side of half term, 2/3 per week tops.

Hollyhedge · 04/06/2025 15:54

Me - how was exam?
DC - with friends back later - love you
Me - ok not too long, history tomor. How was exam?
DC Good decent
Cool

I think the ‘cool’ is to get back soon as history tomor. So AQA higher ‘good decent’

23rd? Is that iGCSE or not England?? Physics here is 16th

OhCrumbsWhereNow · 04/06/2025 15:57

We have Music on the afternoon of the 16th...

DD's most important subject and has been relegated as last and so much revision for the others.

Weekend before is going to be hell as she's only really interested in the more practical sides of music and so she will be fed up and tired of the whole exam side of things by then. Hoping to get one last burst of enthusiasm.

ChannelLightVessel · 04/06/2025 15:58

DCat2 seems unscathed by his escapade, whereas my poor neighbour who rescued him appears quite traumatised 😼
Meanwhile, school has called me to say DD has wet herself, and DM is setting off to pick her up.
(DD has extra time for English Lang and Lit, and Geography. She feels v guilty about it, but she didn’t choose to have ASD. Or OCD, which is why she won’t use the school toilets ever.)

Hollyhedge · 04/06/2025 16:01

12 days until freedom day!! 17th ❤️💕💙

TeenToTwenties · 04/06/2025 16:01

@ChannelLightVessel DD's college has some 'anxiety toilets' which are extra wide, no touch automatic things. They were fantastic for DD when she first started. It's amazing what can be done to help when the willpower is there.

Eugh....see above....I'm not very well 🤒

It's the 16th! He is very much GCSE and we are very much in England.

NotDonna · 04/06/2025 16:09

Crikey, I’ve 111 posts to catch up on!!

achangeofnameisasgoodasarest · 04/06/2025 16:13

@OhCrumbsWhereNow - so much the same with music. DD’s only compulsory a level and she appears to have done nothing much to revise for it so far… because it is last.

And it really doesn’t seem to matter how good you are at actually playing when it comes to the listening- dd2 appears to rock in an orchestra but her knowledge of ‘Afro-Celt beat’ is weak. Fingers crossed she now has time to pull it back but there are three sciences to go first.

Ours are more dense. DD has 4 over 3 days this week! Then one day off next week. But finishes on 16th.

Agree on all counts!

And really, really cannot wait for the end of that exam and to be completely done with education in terms of schools and exams and being a square peg with nothing but round holes in sight.

From July onwards she can just focus on doing what she's wanted to do since she was 2 and where finally she will be a perfect fit with at least 90% of expectations.

Weirdly I also slightly tearful and sad about getting to the end - buying that first pinafore dress that came down to her ankles as she was so teeny seems like both yesterday and a very long time ago!

Same but think part of it is language Spanish is right at the end (goes German French Spanish) so can seem more

we have one per day until the 18th with 3 double days

Advent0range · 04/06/2025 16:27

Well, maths Edexcel higher went ok today, I was allowed an actual conversation with DD while I took her to Costa.
Agree with PPS slot the amount of history revision. She's not started one topic yet (cold war) and the exam is tomorrow. I know more than I want to about Wolsely though.

Aww that made me well up and I didn’t even have a girl in a pinafore dress!

I so agree with the square pegs and the round holes. It’s been so hard for many of them. I keep reminding myself that the main thing for DS is to finish his GCSES with his mental health and self confidence intact..

This fills me with so much hope for my DD going to college!

Oh, Dear Lord!! Me, too!!

I’m skimming whilst I’m trying to get ready to go out to meeting, easing DS back into revision after this morning and ascertaining whether DS18 is finally up ( day off!), but, YES!! This, THIS, is what keeps me and DS going!! 💖🙏

Oh you made me cry now! I also never had the too big pinafore but we do have a cute photo of DS on Day 1 of Reception with shorts that are too big and a book bag skimming the grass 😭

I also have a DS who is a square peg who has faced round holes his entire life, I cannot wait until he is at College doing cool stuff and enjoying it. I have never seen him so engaged as he was when he did his powerpoint presentation prep for his college interview - he was so happy.

On that note - it had to happen- but he now has a stinking cold the night before his extensive history exam. I have already given Calpol and am going to nip out later to get some more - he will be dosed up again at bedtime and again tomorrow morning. He has a cough that sounds like he has been in a 1950s jazz club smoking woodbines

Thank you. Yours and @VivaDixie posts have made me a bit teary! I've been sitting here thinking what I would give for my child NOT to need extra time in the first place and how sitting GCSEs are just one in a line of hurdles she will need to cross. We didn't fight for extra time to game the system, we fought because the alternative was her not passing any. As it is, we are going be thrilled with the 4s and 5s she hopefully will get!

🤗… I know what you mean… Your DD is everything to you and it’s so upsetting, I’m sure, to see her pain and struggles, when other DC currently may not be.

It breaks my heart just to see the chasm between my two equally perfect DS. Little one just has already had so much to overcome to not even begin to keep up. It’s even harder to witness as DS18 is the very youngest in his year and DS16 the oldest, it just makes his problems seem so much more stark. Which wouldn’t even be levelled if extra time were doubled!

Anyway, I respect what you and @ExamStuffsaid and I’m glad I did say something. Hopefully all over!

If DS gets his “4x4” ( as I’m calling the 4 Grade 4 he needs to get into college), we will be the happiest family around on results day!!!

Pseudoephedrine is your friend here - you have to ask for it as it's kept behind the counter, but is amazing stuff and just dries colds up and makes you feel human again. Boots own is good. Do not get phenylephedrine as it's utterly useless.

Sorry for making you all teary!
