New thread to help us get through the next week or so!

Ds2 is back into school for revision sessions for the first time today.
I am very worried that very little revision was done last week. He seems to have spent most of it slobbing in bed.

frozendaisy · 03/06/2025 06:39

I can feel a row coming with NoRevision this morning after yesterday
”want to change subjects?”
(With all the enthusiasm of a wet mop) “might as well you are going to make me do maths all day tomorrow aren’t you”
“ yes yes I am”

I plan to point out that the examination boards don’t care if I can do probability tomorrow and if he wants to strut around being MrSTEM then he needs to accept that this is about as easy as it’s going to be (academically) for a while yet!

newmum1976 · 03/06/2025 06:57

To those with demotivated kids- I had 4 days of this over half term and it was so frustrating. The only thing that snapped DD2 out of it was ignoring her and scheduling some time with her tutor to force her back into work. I hope you manage to sort something. I did try bribery, reasoning, disappointment etc etc but nothing worked!

QueenMabby · 03/06/2025 07:35

Morning all. Best of luck for those with Latin Poetry this morning. Are there any others today? Dd says it’s just Latin and a Spanish A level
going at her school in the first session today - she’s hoping they start a few minutes early!

OP posts:
labradorservant · 03/06/2025 07:52

It seems a very quiet day in exam land. I’m invigilating film studies alevel and there is Spanish a level and Russian gcse and Latin by the sounds of it! All kicks off again tomorrow!

HereComesYourMam · 03/06/2025 07:55

I appreciate that bribery (I call it 'incentivising') doesn't work for everyone, but it does in this house and I had to resort to that yesterday. They are all just knackered and fed up.

QueenMabby · 03/06/2025 07:57

Dd looks like death warmed up this morning. And her hair “isn’t going right”. <sigh>.

I’m keeping my head down and my mouth shut!

EarthlyNightshade · 03/06/2025 08:41

Mine is fed up with the endless "put on your blazer, tuck in your shirt" - honestly, does it matter at this stage? Less than two weeks and he's out of there!
They don't have study leave even now although half the year group has taken it. I think he realises (after last week!) that he gets more done in school so is continuing to go in this week.
Maths tomorrow for everyone??

Araminta1003 · 03/06/2025 09:42

My DD did a fair bit of work over half term, but thrown in with lots of panicking about History and AdMaths mainly. So she has not revised in a targeted or balanced way. She definitely made a lot of extremely pretty history time lines (AGAIN!)
She hates the heat and does badly in the heat, aggravated by hayfever and lack of ability to sleep. I reckon the cooler weather this week is going to help her much more than any revision done at half term.

Hollyhedge · 03/06/2025 09:56

They have the weather on their side this next week at least. I can’t believe two weeks today it is all over. DS looked pretty chipper - went into school, they get two hours maths prep. He was looking forward to seeing his mates and teachers - feeling a little emotional about leaving his school I think. I don’t feel too stressed at this point, mainly because we’re at the point where what will be will be. A lot of lessons learned, mainly for me tbh, will be exciting for him to go to his tasters!

Eccle80 · 03/06/2025 10:28

I’m looking forward to Monday after next when it is all over! DS is now on study leave though did go into school for a bit yesterday for a history session. He is just about to get going on maths, but that is one he likes and is more motivated on as he really wants a 9 in it and knows he can’t lose many marks (he’s doing maths and further maths A level next year).

I feel like once we get to the weekend we’re through the worst as he only has 5 more and apart from geography it’s all maths and science which are his strengths and he enjoys.

Whoooo · 03/06/2025 10:31

Dd back from her 1 lesson today
Maths revision taking place later on she assures me 😁

Whoooo · 03/06/2025 10:35

Dd is actually quite anxious about leaving school now after months saying she couldn't wait 🤔

frozendaisy · 03/06/2025 10:37

Still trying to entice ours to the kitchen revision table with a fried egg sandwich!

That would get me down the stairs every time :)

It's a really big thing for them. DS' first choice sixth form is one none of his school mates are going to. End of an era and no real time to process it with all the pressure. I imagine there will be a lot of emotions at the end

DataColour · 03/06/2025 10:49

DS only got out of bed just now. He's tired and fed up now. Maths tomorrow and I think he'll be fine with that. But English on Friday is the big worry as he's weakest in this paper and he hasn't done much revision for it. He just doesn't apply himself at home and writes very little when doing past papers. But claims he did and can write loads more in the actual paper. So it's difficult to gauge how it's going to go.
Geography revision today for the paper 2 on Friday as need to concentrate on English after Maths 2 tomorrow.
He's taking FM but finding it very tough. He has done some revision for it, but it's hard going and it's difficult to know how much effort he should be putting into it and how much improvement is needed. As it's an additional subject (but he's hoping to do A/L maths) it's kind of taking a back seat at the moment to concentrate on the other subjects otherwise he could spend days on it at the detriment of the others.

PrincessOfPreschool · 03/06/2025 10:50

DD bit better yesterday evening but worse again today. Doc appointment booked for this pm. She has not done anything since Thur, missed double maths revision yesterday at school and will miss double French today. Just trying tu get her all enough for the exams this week Maths, History, French and Eng Lang. It's a heavy 3 days if you're unwell.

CatHairEveryWhereNow · 03/06/2025 10:57

DD2 gone in though she woke up feeling full of cold and we offered to have her home entire day - she wanted to be in for maths ideally just morning - lots of drama with friends to if she could get out later. We're happy for her to do whatever she feels best - so we'll see what happens if we get a call or if she can get out.

No exams today for either - DD2 it's exams rest of week after today.

DD2 really keen to be done with the school still - but there a few finishing events which I think do make a difference as DD1 missed due to second year of covid cancelling things so was all very abrupt for her.

Whoooo · 03/06/2025 11:03

@Hollyhedge
Yes, definitely
She's planning to go somewhere not many od her school go to

Oblomov25 · 03/06/2025 11:05

@frozendaisy
I too would be there like a shot for your lovely fried egg 🍳 sandwich 🥪 promises.

CatHairEveryWhereNow · 03/06/2025 11:05

@PrincessOfPreschool that does sound like a heavy week when unwell hopefully GP can help.

DD2 only got a few left that really matter - though she and we'd like her to do well in all - it's next week before we hit maths where she really needs a high grade.

Whoooo · 03/06/2025 11:11

I got dd a blueberry muffin and tomato and herb foccacia from the deli 😁

QueenMabby · 03/06/2025 11:13

I really feel for those dc who are poorly. It’s bad enough having to keep going for all these exams but when you feel rotten it just makes it so much worse.

Dd is pretty snotty at the moment - says it’s not a cold and she doesn’t feel poorly though for which I’m very grateful! She was worried this morning about her nose running during the exam and if she was allowed to take a tissue in with her.

Dd said her Latin exam this morning was fine. A “weird” 4 marker apparently but the 8 and 10 markers were nice.

OP posts:
aliceinawonderland · 03/06/2025 11:33

@QueenMabbyand thankfully nothing like the AI generated one!

She didn’t mention the four marker specifically.. will have to ask

@Hollyhedgedoes your son’s school have a sixth form or is everyone leaving?
