Is there anything I can do to stop this?

Probably not, no. It is a decision for the principal and doesn't need parents' consent but must be to improve behaviour and be regularly reviewed. You can make sure the school continues to extend support and that it is done well. If off site helps to avoid exclusion it can be really worthwhile.
