Bacon’s College VS Charter School Berdmonsey

Hi everyone!

We live in Rotherhithe/Bermondsey and are looking for a state secondary school, possibly great with SEND children, for our daughter.

I’ve heard from parents that Bacon's College Bermondsey was terrible, but the management is improving it significantly, and some children are happy. What does it mean?

No info at all on the Charter School Bermondsey. The ones in North and East Dulwich are great, but no word on this one!

I would love a school with great pastoral care, but can’t afford a private school. Our daughter thrives only by being supported emotionally and in a non competitive environment, but still intresting. She loves literature, art, fashion, dance and drama. A really curious child, eager to learn, even though she struggles in certain areas.

Should we move again?

Hope not! But we are open to move if we find any school that could be a good one for her. Any suggestions?

Hope someone can help 🙏

Hi,
Avoid Charter Bermondsey if possible, you haven’t seen comments because a majority get removed, especially the negative ones. When I applied for this school and did a search, a mother wanted to move her child to another school that cater for SEND children. The bullying and detention, correction time is too much, teacher’s judgement is not always corrected, the staff turnover is high, this has been mentioned numerous times on social media, then the comment get removed. Also, pack- lunch is not allowed unless there is a medical reason.

Maybe have a look at Haberdashers Academy Bermondsey, Harris Academy Bermondsey and if you are RC, Notre Dame Roman Catholic Girls' School (C10 bus very handy for that one)

I used to live in Rotherhithe and Bacon's never had a great reputation.

If you're happy to travel, then you could look at St Marylebone's for drama/dance/music places, ditto Haberdasher New Cross Gate (overground to New Cross Gate makes that reasonable) for music, and Grey Coat in Westminster (language aptitude).

Kingsdale in Dulwich also possible but not the easiest journey (tube to Brixton and then hop on train to Sydenham Hill probs best) but plenty do travel there from North of Borough. Amazing art, music and extra curriculars. We've been incredibly happy with it for DD who is now in Y11.
