JAGS or Wimbledon High??

Our DD has cleared exams and has an offer from both JAGS and Wimbledon High for year 10. We are now totally confused which school to go for. Our daughter is very academic but very quiet and an introvert. Is there one better than the other for her personality?

I have an older DD at WHS and she’s very happy. Seem to be all sorts of personalities and you definitely don’t have to be an outgoing alpha type. I don’t know JAGs at all
bit suspect similar. If you can’t decide I’d probably go with the easiest journey, especially if one is much more easier than the other.

First of all, congratulations on the offers. We have a DD at WHS and looking at her year group and others there is definitely a mix of personalities (and the school is actually keen to encourage girls to be their own person whilst also encouraging an environment where girls, however different, are supportive of each other). The academics are obviously strong but it does not feel like a hot house and the range and quality of extra curricular is great.
If not done already and possible, I would encourage you and your DD to visit the schools and, as @itstheeasterbunny mentions, also consider the logistics (as it impacts not only her getting there but also where friends are likely to live)

Visit the schools with your DC and let her decide?

Where do you live? I would think about journey and where friends might be distributed. Also agree about visiting, or getting your DD to spend a few hours in each, hanging out with her potential new class. That might help her get a feel of them both.

Thank you so much for everyone’s responses! We have been living in Singapore for last 3 years and returning back to the UK this summer. Making a selection for schools has therefore been challenging from overseas.

We considered both for DD a year ago and to my eyes the key differences were

much more green space at JAGS

More on site sport at Jags, at WHS it’s mostly off site though close by

I absolutely loved the head at WHS

WHS only do 9 GCSEs (this of course improves their % of As and A*) - this was a big negative for me as I have an all rounder DD who will struggle to narrow down options. Although it could be a positive for a child with lots of serious extra curriculars

WHS public transport only, no school coaches

Much more use of laptops at WHS - although JAGS has recently started using them more so this may not be a difference any more

WHS is a somewhat smaller school I believe
