Hello, pls can anyone share experiences of how they prepped for the 10+. Do we need to cover the full 11+ curriculum?

My son was successful this year at Hampton 10+.

The exam was solely maths and creative writing.

I don't think the maths was pitched at the same level as an 11+ exam but I'm sure there were some questions to stretch them, plus time pressure.

For the creative writing they were given an image as their prompt.

@SchoolMum1010 , have you read the thread Hampton 10+ help!!

It's a very tricky exam and the hardest entry point to the school. Unless you have been advised by your prep school to apply or your ds is in a primary and loves a challenge and is academically advanced you should treat the process as a practice for the 11 plus and not expect to get an offer.

Agree with the previous OP.. 10+ is very hard and hardly anyone gets in at that entry point. I know some incredibly bright kids who didn't get in then but were fine at 11+. Our tutor advised us not to do it as it can knock some children's confidence too early.. it was the best advice -we focused on the 11+ exam and have been offered this year. Unless your son is very advanced it's probably not worth it.

My son took the 10+ exam and didn’t get an offer, but did at 11+. I would agree with treating as practice for the 11+. I think it helped my son a lot to know what the setting, atmosphere would be like and the way to handle the breaks during the exam.. He was surprised he didn’t get an offer so it pushed him to work harder during the 11+ than he might have otherwise. One side note, if you do get an offer it will be much harder to push your son to study for other schools for the 11+ at least I have seen that a few times with kids who have received it and haven’t gotten other offers at 11+
