Year 9 Option Choices

So DS school requires them to choose options in Year 9. These are not GCSE options per se as there are additional choices at GCSE and less options to take but obviously if you drop something now you can't take it at GCSE.

They have to take the usual. English Language
English lit
Mathematics
A language
Sciences

And then have to pick 6 from

Art - Graphics
Art - Fine Art
D&T - resistant material
D&T - Textiles
Drama
Music
History
Geography
RS
Music
Second Language
Computer Science

DS is so far gaining solid Bs in most subjects bar Computer Science where he's getting an A.

We have to make choices by the end of the week and DS who is a very end summer Borthday and therefore only 12.5 years is feeling very overwhelmed

CS seems an obvious choice but he doesnt love CS and says he find it hard despite getting As.

I think History and RS are definite and Drama.

He doesn't like either his Geography or Spanish teachers so he's put off those and seems to be struggling with both subjects at the moment.

He doesn't play a musical instrument so I can't seem him taking Music GVSE so that seems a wasted option. However I don't think he loves Art enough to put in the effort needed to do well in this.

I think one of the Design Options and either Geography or Spanish but don't know if that's too heavy on the academic side for a B student

Any views or thoughts very welcome

History RS Drama Computer Science one of the DT subjects - whichever he prefers and geography keeps loads of options open

I’m confused - is he currently in year 8 or year 9?

Currently Year 8 - so they narrow down their options in Year 9 and then choose GCSE options for Year 10 and 11 next March.

Anything they drop now they can't do for GCSE.
