Secondary school allocation date - timings

Dillydally88 · 21/02/2025 22:29

Hey! I know each council have their own timings that secondary school allocations are announced… I just wondered if we have applied to a school in another borough that announces allocations at 5pm, will we find out earlier if the borough we reside in releases the results earlier (ie 7am), or will we not find out until the later time for that particular school? Hope this makes sense!

Whichever LA deals with it, not where you live. So 5pm.

Why does it even matter?

I don't think that's necessarily true. We live in a county where quite often the neighbouring county hear about cross county allocations first.

Ok.

Possibly they are waiting for state allocations to decide whether to take a Private school place if they didn’t get their preferences for State and/or Grammar. As a lot of Private acceptance deadlines are around that date as well (some could be on the same day I think).

OP didn't say it matters. She said she is just wondering. Is that ok with you?

You applied to your LA - even if your application included one or more schools in a different one. So your application will be dealt with together with all the other ones to your LA. So in your example you would hear with the results of your application whether you had got into the out of county school at 7am, even though people who had applied to the same school who lived in the LA it is in won't hear until 5pm.

All of London hear 5/6pm because it is centrally managed via eadmissions.

I was super cheeky last year, emailed my second choice in the morning to ask where DS was on the waiting list and they replied within 30 minutes saying his application was withdrawn which meant we know he got offered first choice!

First thing in the morning the councils publish the admissions data to show the distance cut offs. I logged onto eadmissions at 5pm and saw the offer (it wasn't showing before 5pm) then the official email arrived later that day mine was closer to 6pm.

Thanks for the helpful comments!! Good to know I’ll be able to find out for all choices at the earlier time :)

And as for HopingForSomeSunshineSoon - let’s hope we get some sunshine soon so you’re less of a grump!
