Hi everyone I've got an question I currently recieve free school meals for daughter who has started high school this year , we became eligible in 2023.
At that time we were getting child tax credits we have moved on to universal credit.
Now my main question is I'm confused it says children will be protected until end school phase so that means year 11 we are looking to end our universal credit claim as I'm not been to well and pressure there putting on to find work my husband will be working extra hours for us at.
Can anyone tell me will my daughter still be protected for FSM I've been googling it up but says different things.

The government guidance is this:

"Since 1 April 2018, all existing free school meals claimants have continued to receive free school meals whilst Universal Credit is rolled out. This applies even if their earnings rise above the threshold during that time.
• In addition, any pupil gaining eligibility for free school meals after 1 April 2018 will be protected against losing free school meals until March 2025.
• After March 2025, any existing claimants that no longer meet the eligibility criteria at that point (because they are earning above the threshold or are no longer a recipient of Universal Credit) will continue to receive free school meals until the end of their current phase of education (i.e. primary or secondary)"

I'd therefore read that as she'll still be eligible til Y11.

I know in primary schools, once you have been eligible, schools will continue to receive funding for the entire time they're ay school so maybe it's the same. I know this as well had a huge push on trying to encourage parents that were elegible to apply and this was the reason given. I don't think you need to worry about it, just except it.
