Admission

Hiya
I am hope this makes sense, so apologies if there is some waffle along the way!

My youngest daughter will be in year 6 in September and my eldest daughter will be year 11 in September.
When i make the secondary school choices - my eldest will still be at the school I would like my youngest to go to, however when she gets to year 7 - my eldest would have left.
on the schools admission policy it says "children with a brother or sister at the school at the time of admission."
When is time of of admission? in March when places are allocated or in spetember when she starts?
Thanks

Admission is September when she starts so the sibling rule will not apply, unless your older dd is staying for sixth form? But a lot of schools don’t apply it in that case either IME.

Will she not get in anyway?

Admission is when they are admitted - when they start.
Applying is when you pick the schools and ask to go there (when you submit your choices).

September, so no it won't be relevant.

Thanks, she probably wont get in as they dont have a catchment area, and the school take on catholic children as a piority, so the only link on the list was a sibling, but as she will be leaving in summer 2026.

I wasnt sure if admission was when they got the places offered in March, as then techincally my eldest would still be there, but not when she would actually start in the september

Make sure you are looking at the correct admissions policy; you need to look at the 2026 version and I would advise comparing it with the 2025 policy to identify any changes, for example changes in PAN (published admission number) and whether sixth form siblings are counted. If your elder child got in without sibling priority, presumably on faith grounds, has your Church attendance/ pattern of worship changed? As others have mentioned, September will be the date counted, not the offer date.
