Guildford High School Offer Letters

Has anyone had an offer letter today? Our postman has been so we won’t hear until Monday at the earliest now. I’m wondering if they send offer/rejection letters at same time. Good luck to everyone applying.

@SouthLondonM Congratulations. You must be pleased. I hope we can avoid the 11+. I don't need the stress 😅

I was wondering if there are any parents whose daughters are on the waitlist. We received an email from GHS saying:

“she performed very well and we feel she would thrive here. We are however, limited on the number of places we can offer and at the moment we are only able to offer her a place on our waiting list for Year 7 commencing September 2025.”

DH and I are shocked that DD didn’t receive an offer—she’s quite bright. What’s even more surprising is the wording of the email:

“she performed very well and we feel she would thrive here. …” If she did very well how come DD didn’t get an offer? Are we the only ones confused? 🫤 we feel that GHS is saying DD did well but we decided not to accept her.

Is anyone else on the waitlist, and did you receive a similar or different email? Does anyone know if the waitlist ever moves, or is it just a safety net for GHS? Many thanks 😊

They will allmost always have people on waitlist because there will be people letting go of thier seats for various reasons such as getting offered from grammar schools , relocation issue etc. it’s just that nobody knows how far waitlist moves and you can ask them about your waiting list number. In state schools it’s transparent and it’s entirely dependent on marks. Not sure about GHS

For those not getting in, seriously don't worry, there are arguably much better schools around the area - where one can achieve a pretty wholistic education without all the competition - which, will continue all the way through until sixth form. Its case and point proven - I've lived in the area for 28 years and know many families who have gone - it's stressful - no matter what some parents say to the contrary!

The shear fact that there's an entire thread on "GHS offers" just shows how highly pressured and competitive getting in is.

With that in mind, your girls are clearly all very bright and regardless of whether they got in or not, it's not the end of the world. Maybe see that as a positive? In Guildford and the surrounding villages alone there are some amazing schools, further afield, even more options!

Well done to those two got in - but for those who didn't, you'll do great!

Congratulations to those with offers. We are prepping for 11+ and GHS is one of our choices. If anyone has any prep advice or wants to share how much they prepped? Thanks so much
