Group interview for a private school 11+ exam

Do you know what to expect from a group interview to a private school? My DS has been invited for a group task and told that no preparation is required. The kids will have a group discussion and some tasks to solve. Do you have any idea what kind of discussion topics may come up? Thank you for any tips!

No idea what topics but in DDs 13+ scholarship assessment they had a group task. The topic didn't really matter, they are looking for how your child responds to, and works with others, do they show leadership skills etc. Can they problem solve, communicate well and present findings etc.

My daughter did one and it was a normal classroom based discussion of a new idea to see how they engaged with ideas and expressed themselves in response. I think hers was something like discussing the benefits and risks of AI. In terms of topics they had recommended that children were familiar with the news through something like newsround or The Week Junior, so I thought it might be a more topical subject, but it was a fairly broad one not related to a specific news event.

My main advice would be to encourage your DS to be communicative, make eye contact, listen to others, and overall demonstrate good critical engagement, confidence and respect for others' opinions. They aren't looking for right answers. This is my experience of one school.

DD did several of these. The two I remember her describing were a murder mystery and design/build a bridge as a team. I think there was another one based on ancient artefacts. They were all quite fun and really not based on anything topical (some topical stuff did come up in some 1-1 interviews though but nothing obscure or very adult iyswim).

As pp says they are looking for how you interact- eg can you speak your views but without interrupting or shouting others down. Can you be constructive instead of critical/negative. Basically will you be a PITA in a lesson…
