Hi, DD is considering signing up for one of these such as MPW. She is a low A and wants to improve to a high A to cement the result

Any experience of these?

I had never heard of these @SoTiredNeedHoliday but had a look at the MPW one for French A level (my subject). I reckon you could replace it with about 15 hours of tutoring plus a good slice of HW/past paper practice (which the tutor would then mark and feed back).

I couldn't see any fee structure – how much does a one-week/40-hour course cost?

thanks @clary the courses are not cheap, somewhere around £1300 I think.

I just wonder how I would get someone to structure 15 hours of tutoring in a week, DD could do the rest revision and past papers and hand them in no problem but it is actually finding someone that can offer that.

Wow that’s quite a lot of money. Tutoring prices seem to vary wildly but I think £40 ph would be feasible for an A level tutor.

15 hours in a week as a one-off would be a challenge to find, it’s true. Not ideal for a tutor tbh. Couldn’t you get a tutor to cover two hours a week (say) for a couple of months? And set past paper work as well? Would be less intense than eight hours of French (or whatever) a day. Plus it would be 1-1.

@clary yes possibly a good idea, ideally I don't want to fork out that much money on a week when I don't know what the quality of teaching etc will be
