Anyone know any good monologues for gcse exam piece? DD needs inspiration and it’s not forthcoming from school.
Thanks.

I thought that they had to write their own? Most people in DD’s class (her included!) did theirs on themes surrounding mental health

Alan Bennett Talking Heads.

Must depend on the exam board. They wrote some scripts in y10 and performed as a group. This one has to be from a published play, not Shakespeare or anything they’re studying.

The play adaptation by Simon Stephens of Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, it’s structured as the main character’s diary read aloud by 2 other characters so there are quite a few good monologues.

Go crazy and do the monologue from Barbie.

Outside the box!

Love this idea!!

You can’t do transcripts from films unfortunately. There’s a fantastic one from ‘Boys’ by Ella Hickson https://www.through-the-wardrobe.com/uploads/2/5/8/5/25856550/boys_.pdf
Or the final scene of ‘Taming of the Shrew’, a great one in ‘Agnes of God’ or ‘Like a Virgin’ or even the play version of ‘The Diary of Anne Frank’. Feel free to DM me!

What are they studying? How long does it need to be?

Get her to loonat Alan Bennett Talking Heads, there are some more recent ones that are good, but cream Cracker Under The Settee is good, or the the one Patrica Routledge did, Lady of Letters I think it's called.

I'm not sure if it would be classed as a monologue, but Charlotte Perkins Gilmore The Yellow Wallpaper might work

Susiesoozie · 31/12/2024 21:23

I did a comedy piece from Victoria wood !

parrotonmyshoulder · 31/12/2024 21:53

What was your Victoria wood piece? I’m not sure she’d cope with that but I’d love it!

Googled drama school audition suggestions and this came up?

There are some great Disney monologues.

Ihatelittlefriendsusan · 31/12/2024 22:00

I can't get it to load in order to link but there is a famous female monologue in John Webster's The White Devil. I studied it at university but that is a lifetime ago now but it might be worth a look.

This has a couple from Louise May Alcotxs Little Women

If you want something classic, try the monologue that starts with”Key? What key?” from act 3 of Gaslight - script here: https://irp-cdn.multiscreensite.com/b5cf95f0/files/uploaded/Script%20-%20Gaslight.pdf

It offers a lot of scope for vocal range, movement, mood and stagecraft.

I suggest A Taste of Honey. I think it’s a great fit for a young woman. Top Girls by Caryl Churchill worth looking at too.

WithASpider · 01/01/2025 20:30

I did one from Under Milk Wood. It's a radio play so quite a few good monologues in there!
