Moreton in Marsh

Hi everyone, looking for some school advice. We're looking to leave London and move to Oxfordshire to be nearer family and have our eye on Moreton in Marsh because of the train (we only need to be in London once or twice a week), but also the schools. I know it’s in the catchment for The Chipping Campden School, but the Moreton council website also says children go to The Cotswold School. But when I looked into it, Moreton seems to be out of that catchment. Is that right?

We’re particularly interested in the Stratford grammar schools too. Moreton seems to be on the very edge of that catchment, but not in the ‘priority catchment’. Obviously 11+ results dependent, but does anyone know if children from Moreton do get into the Stratford Grammars, considering how on the cusp it is geographically?

Chipping Campden School looks great, I just liked the idea of moving somewhere with options as our DD is young, and we don’t yet know where will suit her. But we need to move soon!

Thank you so much in advance.

Being in catchment is only relevant with regard to your application's ranking - if the school hasn't filled all its places by the time it reaches your DC's name on the list, ranked according to the oversubscription criteria, then the place has to be offered, even if you lived in John O'Groats and not a few miles away within the same LA.

Gloucestershire publishes its allocations day stats here
https://www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/education-and-learning/school-admissions-scheme-criteria-and-protocol/allocation-day-statistics-for-gloucestershire-schools/

On 1st March 2024, the last place offered at the Cotswold Academy was to the 62nd applicant in the last ('distance only') category, at just over 12 miles from the school.

My parents live in Moreton, and tell me that the more academically aware parents send their children to Cotswold (this includes Oxford academics, doctors, etc.).. That said, Campden is still an excellent school (admittedly, I'm biased because I went there 30+ years ago).

With two such good schools, it's really not necessary to look to the Stratford grammars, with the stress of the 11+.

Thank you both so much. Really helpful. I think I was just confused by The Cotswold School website, which lists all the ‘priority catchment’ villages, and Moreton isn’t on there. But yes, @MarchingFrogs , obviously makes sense it’s just a ranking and you could still get a place. And great to hear that Moreton people do @Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies . Thank you both again.
